Got some weird I-130 questions... hoping someone can help

Hi all,

Had a question about a few fields in I-130 — I'm putting it in here as it seems to have a bit more activity, hope this is okay mods?

I am a USC (petitioner) filing for my husband (beneficiary) and I’m running into some questions on filling out I-130.

I am a naturalized citizen, however, I lost my naturalization certificate several years ago. I've since applied for a new one but I can't wait for it before I submit my I-130. I have a valid US passport.

I'm applying through DCF, and so will be filing in-person.

Is it a good idea for me to write "lost, applied for replacement" in the field where it asks for my certificate number?

In addition, I already have a USCIS account number because of my application for replacement of my certificate. Should I use this number in my I-130 application too? What about my original Alien number from when I moved to USA prior to becoming citizen? Or is this no longer applicable since I'm USC?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

do you have at least the copy of it so you can fill out question 37-39c ?

i dont think its a bad thing to write on the addendum page stated u are waiting for the replacement and attach the receipt letter

fill out ur alien #. that is ur number no matter what and if i remembered, that alien number also stated on the naturalization certificate.

i wouldnt worry about USCIS account number. if u have it, fill it out, if u dont, no biggie

I don't, unfortunately. I haven't seen it for years and I literally have no recollection where it might have gone. I have already filed and paid for N-565 (replacement), which includes me filing a police report for the missing certificate. I suppose I could print out copies with me when I go to the embassy. I'm just unsure about the following:

1. Should I answer "no" or "yes" for #38

2. Should I write "lost, applied for replacement" in #39a

What makes you think you will be filing y our petition DCF.  That's only available under pre-approved special circumstances now.

When did you apply for the replacement certificate? A friend of mine had to get a congressman involved after she waited several months for her replacement. Hopefully, they’ve sped up the process and/or you are apply to submit the I-130 without that information… you might also want to submit FOIA to get the information so you can complete the required fields.

ETA: you have received a certificate so I would say “yes”… issue is you lost it.

Hey there! You can file an FOIA request through USCIS...online and they can provide you with your naturalization info. It might take a while to get back...but definitely not as long as the n565 application. I applied with my US passport from abroad too. My I-130 got approved.

Ok thanks everyone, I will apply for an FOIA and attach both that and my N-565 as evidence when I submit my I-130. I hadn't realized applying for FOIA was an option, this is very helpful thank you!

Weirdly, I can't figure out why 37 and 39a-c is blocked out from responses both online and downloaded: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-130.pdf
