How to import a Canadian leased car to the US? What procedures and documents are required?

Hello everyone, I leased a car at the Lexus store in 2021, and it expires next year. I plan to buy it out and bring it to the United States for use now. What should I do?

What documents do I need to prepare to turn my Canadian car into a USA car?

Is there any detailed steps you can teach me?

Is there an agency that can do it for me? How much will it cost?

Thank you very much for your reply!

Once you buy out the lease, this may be helpful.

Good Luck!

I replied on the other thread:

1. Letter of Compliance from the manufacturer.  This could be challenging as Toyota stopped issuing them.

2. Bill of Sale

3. EPA and HS-7 forms

You may have to pay taxes on the vehicle, depending on where it's manufactured.

Once you get it to your state, follow the state guidance for registration and insurance.

Thank you, do you know any recent case of successfully importing Toyota cars to the United States? Or do you know any reliable import company that can help me import my car

Sorry, unfortunately I do not.  There have been some other threads on the forum, so a quick search might help you more than I can.

There are also a couple of "Canadians Living in the US" and "Tips for Canadians in the US" Facebook pages that are quite active that might be able to answer about an importer for you if you use that social media platform.

A agent just quoted me $4600!!!And we need to modify car to meet their requirment!

"If you can’t get the letter, we would have to import it and have it sit in our yard for a minimum of 30 days.
But…we need to confirm if the vehicle has a working TPMS. That can be verified by turning the car on and look for an orange symbol like this: (!).
If the car doesn’t have it, it can not be imported.
We should also be able to see the words “BRAKE” and “PARK”.
If you don’t have those you will have to fix it before it can cross.“

”According to my understanding, you will send a tow truck to take my car away from my home, and then shipped it to stay in your place for 30 days, and after the formalities were completed, we went to your city to pick it up. Then take your documents and go to the DMV to register in my name, right? Such a total cost including tariffs and all government fees is 4600 US dollars?“
