USC attempting to bring mum

I was wondering which is better and quicker to file to bring my mum here from Nigeria where she currently resides: IR 5 or I-130?

Anyone with knowledge on timelines for Nigeria? I looked on this website and I am confused if the timelines are to the US service centers or the foreign consulates would affect the timeline.

I am expecting a baby in November and my mum recently got denied a visitor's visa and just need the best route to get her here quickly. It might not happen for the delivery I know, but I am looking for the fastest time she can get here to support me.

Thanks!

It will take two years, and the IR visa is your only option.

There is no "quickly" with immigration. And Nigeria is extremely backlogged so (if things stay the same) you're looking at 36 months or more before she can move to the US.

Someone sponsored their mother and had been waiting for an interview since December 2020- they never returned to update...

Unfortunately, your mother will not receive her immigrant visa by the time the baby is born.

If the only reason for filing the visa is so she can help you with your recovery after the birth/support for the first few months, that is not going to happen.

You will probably have to visit her in Nigeria for her to meet the baby.

Quite a few people from Nigeria use tourist visas to bypass the long immigration wait. If your mother informed them she was going to the US to help you with the baby, they might have assumed she had immigrant intent and would stay once she arrived with no intention of returning to Nigeria.

Does your mother want to move to the US or does she only want to stay for 6 months or so... if it is the latter, she could try for another tourist visa with stronger evidence of ties to Nigeria...
