Only if you are more than 2 weeks before expiration of your I-94 (90 days after arrival via the K-1).  You won't be able to get a SS Card in married name until you have an EAD or Green Card.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Hi,

I am filing AOS now. Can I apply for SSN before filing AOS?

Thanks

Yes, you can apply for SSN before AOS. You can see our Timeline or Profile->Our Story to see our steps.

If you get your marriage certificate early enough before the I-94 expiration, you can even update the SSN to the marriage name before the AOS and file the AOS with the marriage name using the SSN in the I-485.

I also chatted with someone in Florida that got their marriage certificate within the I-94 valid period, and filed for SSN directly with the marriage name using passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate and I-94. And then, they applied for the AOS. Have not heard any problems from them yet.

hi everyone,

I have applied for SSN along with my AOS i-485 application. Does anyone know how long it takes to get SSN number?

Thanks

You should have applied 2 working days after you entered the U.S. on your K-1.

1. How many days are left on your I-94?

The SSN usually comes 2 weeks before or after a gc is approved. Sometimes never.

2. Did you you also file I-765?
