I have just been asked if I am Australian or a New Zealander, the only options seemingly allowed.

Husband reacts strongly if asked if he’s an Aussie…..     😅

In before the purge:

Speaking of the under educated …

Aussie is a  Maori term that means “West Islander”. It comes the root word, “Australia” which means “West Island”.

North+Island,+South+Island,+West+Island,

I really do not understand why your husband gets so wound up when folks get his island of birth wrong.

His response is "do I look like a criminal?"

He needs to leave the sheep alone.

It is possible. Starting this month, despite the 30 year wait to get a gc, citizens of certain countries who are waiting for a sibling visa will be invited to apply for parole into the U.S.  This parole will let the sibling live in the US and let the sibling apply for a work and travel permit.

My prediction is it will be expanded to all countries.

Where can one find detailed info on this?

  • April 27,2023 announcement
  • says DOS will consider parole for already approved family-based petitions
  •
  • New Family Reunification Parole Processes. DHS is creating new family reunification parole processes for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Colombia. The agency is also modernizing existing family reunification parole processes for Cuba and Haiti. These processes, once finalized, will allow vetted individuals with already approved family-based petitions to be paroled into the United States, on a case-by-case basis. The U.S. Government will deliver timely and efficient authorization for those approved and vetted to travel. Individuals paroled into the U.S. under these processes would be eligible to apply for work authorization.

I was trying to listen to 1PM press conference to hear about parole but Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel did not mention it

The parole portion of the announcement is not a DOS initiative -- DOS has no authority to parole people into the US.  As stated in the part you quoted, it is a DHS (USCIS) program, so it's highly unlikely that the DOS spokesperson would be discussing it at a press conference.
