Presumably one of the languages on the document is English, so you can copy the exact English text from the original to the translated document. Attach a copy of the original with English text highlighted.

Hi all,

So, finally after almost 12 months, we received an RFE today. It is clearly pointing out that we need to translate our marriage certificate.

We provided a Dutch marriage certificate, which comes in five (5!!) Languages. I even put it in the file name (e.g. multi-launguage_wedding_certificate).

We're luckily not in a hurry, but I am unsure how to proceed to get the i130 approved.

Debating between just uploading it again or getting it translated (or do it myself, that's allowed I read).

Anybody has some ideas about this specific Dutch case?

Thank you.

I went to my gemeentehuis and asked for a certified copy. It has it in English on there too. Did not have a problem or RFE

Thanks a lot for helping me out.

It feels redundant, but that's fine. We just want to end up moving, that's all.

@Marieke Hdid you use your own name for the certification? (Yes, I read Crazy Cat's comment, but for the sake of conflict of interest I thought about let my friend read it over and sign).

Yes, but it's multilingual, which is the whole problem right now. I am not aware of any other possible document. It's either Dutch or the multilingual one.

This is actually a great idea.

Edit: or maybe not. It does not add anything after adding the translation. The only thing it potentially could do is annoy or confuse.

I signed as the translator. If you feel more comfortable having someone else do it, that's fine too. It's really no big deal, especially because the English translation is already included on the certificate.

Thank you for responding.

I am going to make the certificate right now and upload it. Let's see how long it takes them to respond to the RFE.

Another question, do I also upload the so-called "coversheet" that was in the letter? This also seems unnecceary for online filing.

Alright, I uploaded everything :)

Edit: lol, now I am in doubt about if I should've mailed it. The portal let me upload documents, so I guess that is a good option instead of mailing. Though, the letter did not clearly state either of the options.

@Marieke H @Kaatje did you guys upload it online or mailed it?
I have an IOE number and everything has been online so far.

The letter only talks about "submitting the evidence" "you must submit the evidence" etc etc.

There is a cover sheet with a location in Texas, but that's it.

Follow the exact instructions you were given.  Of course the cover sheet is mandatory.

Like I said, no clear instructions are in the letter. It only talks about submitting evidence.

There is a sheet attached to send it to Texas, but considering the fact we have an IOE number (fully digital) it does not make sense to start mailing things. Do you have a different opinion?

Your description is your vague interpretation of what you read.   An educated opinion requires access to the exact complete text, minus the personal information.

You are right about that, let me provide that for you. Thank you for your help. Page 3 is a cover sheet.

On the bottom of the page, they encourage online activity:

The final paragraph makes things very clear.  Was there not also an address provided?  You see, the cover sheet is how they get your response to the actual person that has your file.  Send your response by priority mail to the address provided.

Always read carefully, interpret literally (Send means send, not upload)  (On top of does not mean in addition to.) and respond accurately.

Right.

This morning a prepared a package to send in, but before UPS could pick it up I found an approval in our account. Was well worth the $35.

Thank you everyone for your help.
