I am just curious how you know that no one reads the guides??

I know a lot of people don't...

i think it would be better if they were made to be a little easier to understand.... I have looked through the guides on occasion and sometimes they can be a little confusing etc....

They don't need to be replaced.

I'm not dismissing your question krikit. Thing is, I believe these threads lead in many ways to a lot of the 'other' problems people complain about insofar as site 'usefulness'.

There's a lot of grumbling about members who want to be spoonfed. If it's mega-difficult to find information then maybe there aren't as many 'spoonfeeders' as we think.

There were no 'filer' threads for ages. I have always was been able to find my 'peers' by simply reading the forums.

I understand your position, RebeccaJo. And I think Caladan has a valid point. The search feature could certainly use some refinement. Among other reasons, the "filer" threads probably originated due to the less-than-user-friendliness of the search feature.

As to the spoonfeedees (lol), my general attitude is to ignore them. Once they realize it's not going to happen, they'll soon learn to do some research.

Unfortunately, I must run out now, so I'll check in on the discussion later/tomorrow.

Ciao!

The new site search in the blue bar at the top of every page is powered by google and is night and day better than the forums only search -- plus it searches the entire content of the site. If you have only used the forums search you will be impressed. It also can search for words less then three digits so is useful for form searching where the terms are small in length.

The new search engine is Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better. I actually find it to be useful now (and that used to be my biggest grip about this site!) Thanks Ewok for the upgrade!!

No one reading the guides is a bit harsh... but I know what you are getting at. I would love to find ways to increase readership of the guides and FAQ's as that is a terrific way to get new members "in the know".

This is actually quite good and a bit like what I had in mind for a tutorial.

I'm pointing to the thread wondering if you would consider this 'micro-management' or 'immigration help-desk'? Seems to me it might help make things user-friendly.

I think it's great but Cap'n had a thread pinned in there already. We already have the guides. No one reads them, no matter how pretty or witty you make it.

Discussed here last week:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80060

It's a never ending circle. Noobs don't read, you point out the guides, noobs get mad they are not spoonfed. Monthly threads create hysteria. That July AOS one for example, ONE PERSON got an RFE, and then all the others assumed they would. No one who knows better goes in to correct the misinformation - so it spreads.

I thought it was a great topic and even more I took the content she posted and moved it into the pinned thread :) .

I said I liked it but that content was already there - or in the Guides - just not as casually written. It doesn't change the fact that no one reads the guides! ;)

Devilette, I read the guides and use google search, i always have :P hehehe too much info is lost in the filer threads so i usually find what i'm looking for either in the guides or by googling :D

Separated!!

OK, not very many people read the guides.

Look on page 1 of the K1 forum, on any given day & that is what I base my judgement on.

Anyhoo, :ot2:

Filer threads - doesn't anyone find the hysteria/misinformation alarming?

Yup. We only know who doesn't read the guides here because they post the "starter" questions. This site gets alot of traffic and I'm betting that there are many who come through here having read the guides and learned something.

I think a better quote would be "not as many people use the guides as we would like!". ;)

Also if it were me, no matter how much a read online I would want to ask and see what other people experienced as well. Hearing about another peoples first hand experience in addition to just black and white text is important. But that is just how I am and I am very overly careful. :P

I don't look much in the K1 visa areas anymore but has anyone who is concerned posted a thread there to tell the monthly filers, in a nice way, to not panic or expect everyone to be approved at the same time even though they are filing the same month? Just wondering b/c like I said I don't read the threads there very often.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Lisa - Kindly read and attempt to comprehend my entire post. Doing so will fully explain to you what I meant. Not what you'd like to believe I meant.

becca...your first post here...'these threads need to be killed...they serve no purpose whatsoever' is what I'm referring to. Because YOU felt they were pointless, you have no problem coming and pizzing all over something that apparantly gives joy to many on here.

There is no 'job' for any of us at VJ. If people choose to go this process without a lawyer, THEY are responsible for finding the information....Not 'omG! there's an answer here! We can't have it buried for those who are gormless!' You're not a lifeguard manning a beach...what you're doing is essentailly making there be a higher level of micro management for those who are too lazy or unwilling/unable to use a search button. Which I find completely ridiculous. Because the same answer is given countless times over if one chooses to actually LOOK.

Your original post offended me and many here who take value out of those threads.

And many also agreed with it, but we are old gits so our opinion means nothing.... Now that you've (finally) filed all of a sudden you know all about immigration & how VJ best works?

Never said a thing about 'old gits'...

And since I (finally) have filed...and thanks for noticing....I can speak from a perspective of one who enjoys those threads...one who would have been directly affected had E listened to RJ. So it has nothing to do with 'who knows immigration best'... In fact, I'd dare say they affect people like me a bit more than those who are already done with AOS. Since I (finally) filed and all... ;)

Yes, I have FINALLY filed. Woo hoo for us! FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY! Let's all get that out of our systems....LISA D HAS FINALLY FILED!:dance::dance:

However, you're damned right I have my own opinion on how VJ best works...doesn't everyone? What a silly thing to actually say. Comes in second to 'you think you know immigration now?' hahaha, I mean really. Well, third really to me (finally) filing. And the irony of the fact that I'm probably one of the most VJ familiar newbie K-1 posters and you're all 'you think you know?' is not lost on me, btw. But eh....

No one said VJ was ever a job, Lisa. RJ has helped hundreds of VJers, so when she suggests something I hope admin listens. I do. It's not hard to see the recent craziness & lack of control on VJ is an issue.

She didn't suggest, she demanded...without a thought of how it would affect those who take pleasure from those threads. 'Kill them!' she said 'They serve no purpose!' No, sorry dev....I'm glad the admin didn't listen to her. <----(in case it's too subtle, this is my on-topic point.)

Thank you Ewok!!!

What's going on on VJ is about people realizing that Ewok, and not them, own this site.

 It's called micromanaging or babysitting. Who has time to do that every week when the panic starts anew? Or who wants to?

The most rebecca did was offer her opinion. She may have stated it a little forcefully, but it might behoove everyone to calm the hell down.
