Did I just receive the NOA2?

Hello all,

I submitted the CR-1 for my spouse back on 3/4 and received the I-797C NOA form soon after. After some research, I understood that this is NOA1, and no action needed to be done at this time. Today, 6/18/23, I received an email from the NVC stating that my case was went over to the NVC and that a case has been created for me. On the email, it invited me to go online to their website and pay some fees before we can fill out the forms online. It also mentioned completing a 12 step process for completing the case. Is this the NOA2? I wasn't sure cause it seemed like from other timelines, the gap between NOA1 and NOA2 was a lot longer than we experienced. Also, I have not received anything in the mail yet similar to the I-797C form.

I guess my main question is - is this the NOA2? Or is this just a step in between?

Thanks!

This is the next step after the NOA2.   You should have gotten an I-797 approval letter from USCIS (NOA2).  It appears your I-130 was approved in near record time if you submitted the I-130 on 3/4/2023..  You are now at the NVC step.  Congratulations!!!!

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

If I did not receive the approval letter, but received the email, does that just mean the email is traveling faster than mail? Should I expect something in the mail in the next few days or did something go wrong? Sorry I'm a little paranoid cause it seems too fast lol

If anything, the NOA2 is just slow or lost.  No need to worry about that right now.  I don't recall even needing the actual NOA2 (unlike K-1 applicants).  I would just carry on in accordance with NVC instructions.  If you have a USCIS account, perhaps there is an online copy there.

Thank you, hopefully the rest of the process goes well.

@Crazy Cat

Sorry to ping you. Just wanted to quickly ask - based on the timeline website

I'm on Step 3 right? Processing at NVC?

Correct.  Once you have paid fees and submitted proper documents, NVC will document qualify the case, and place the case in a queue until your case has reached the front of the queue for other cases waiting an interview date.  Then, NVC will assign you an interview date and send the case to your consulate.

I have heard USCIS is starting to implement Last In First Out.  I was doubting it but this is the second approx 90 approval I have seen this week.
