Need to update DL after Naturalization?

Hi,

 

I recently became a Naturalized US Citizen. I have updated my Social Security by going to local SS office by providing 2 forms of ID i.e. US Passport and Driver License. (Naturalization Certificate is still with State dept after Passport). 

So, my question is,  Do we need to update DL status as well with DMV or social security will transit citizenship status to DMV by themselves?

Here in Texas, I don't think the state is auto notified.

Yeah...I don't know here either. 
Plus,  I don't even know if I need to update status with DMV or not since Utah issues Original DL to citizens and LPRs. My license still have few more years to expire.

We haven't contacted DMV here yet...but we plan to because we need to change her address......In Texas, that can be done online only if you are a US citizen.

Did your wife get full term License or limited term in texas? (If she was conditional resident)

unless ur state issued a restricted DL,  u don't have to do anything to show u r now a USC

 

it would say resticted on the DL itself

this use  to be done for foreign students but i believe all states quit that process

She received a full term (6 year)Texas  license in 2017.  Yes, she was a conditional resident at the time.

Utah issues full term license to Citizens and LPRs. (Even to conditional green card holders). 
Yeah, Idaho gave me limited term when I was conditional. Utah gave me full term even with conditional.

I thought social security woulf just transit information to DMV as well about citizenship update since I provided them with my passport and DL when I went to renew SS status.

You might want to call or schedule a visit to a DMV office.  You can combine the question about your DL with asking if you're listed as registered/cleared to vote, now that you're naturalized.

That's what I did in California. They had no idea what I wanted when I requested to update the records. After a brief dispute about a validity of a US passport as a proof of citizenship, they processed me for a new DL. It's identical to the old one, and I didn't request a new one. So, in California, I see no point in updating the DMV with the citizenship status.

Does Utah have enhanced DL? In NY, enhanced DL (available only to citizens) gets you into Canada and Mexico by land.

in the US we have a sayin

SS will not tell State DMV anything 

there is no need to do that and no requirement

Safe to say you have to update dmv, in My State that is where I physically registered to vote because U couldn’t do it online. Give them a call.

they wont send the info automatically. in Maine, the DMV staff told me to come to the DMV every time i have change a status. if you request a new DL, they will charge u. if you dont request a new DL because urs still have few years expiry date, they will just update ur info without new card. new card = charge. every state has their own rule.
