I-551 Stamp instead of 48-month extension. Asking for some input.

Also forgot to add - the I-94 in reference to the ADIT stamp is not the same as the I-94 you can access online with your travel history. 

 

@Olga&Jared You stated that the letter you received says "USCIS has granted your request and enclosed temporary evidence of your legal status on the Form I-94 with a temporary I-551 stamp". 

 

This makes it sound like the I-94/stamp was enclosed with the letter you received. Is that not the case?

@beloved_dingo That's correct. The UPS package I received only contained one letter of confirmation, and it stated that I should be receiving documents within 7-10 days after a filing date of that confirmation (which was dated June 1st). I never received that card with a photo like in the examples you shared. When I looked at photos from the first topic I got exactly the same confirmation, but it looks like they had documents attached within the same package. I don't know if they forgot to attach mine or they saw that my extension is still valid and decided not to proceed. But then why mail this confirmation

Ok, I literally just went to check my mailbox and I got the stamp! It was a separate UPS package but 3 weeks later instead of 7-10 days. As I thought, it's valid for one year. I'm good till May 31st 2024 🙏 Hopefully, I'll be done with my journey by that time.

I am in shock. USCIS’s own rules are just meant to be broken.

 

If only it put 1/100th of this effort into clearing the I-751 back log

Yeah, I guess I should turn my inner detective off and stop looking for any logics behind their actions. Also, that card looks very similar to a COVID vaccination record 😆

Hi there! Congratulations! How did you receive this stamp? Did you keep filing for 48 month extension notices or did you ask a Tier 1 officer to issue a stamp! Would love to know the process you went through.

Hey! I sent two electronic requests for a missing form and stated that I never received a 48 month extension but both of them were ignored (even though one of the phone support people I spoke to told me that my requests were assigned to officers and I should receive a response). But basically it came to calling multiple times and speaking to different support people. When I called I used infopass and schedule interview shortcuts to reach an actual person because I found that Tier 1/2 stopped working consistently. 
 

I think I spoke to 5 or 6 different people, gathered different pieces of information from each. In my experience, not everyone knows about 48 month extension letters, and if they do they aren’t much help. Though one phone agent actually spent some time looking at the history of everything that was ever mailed to me, that’s how I learnt that I for sure never received it and a post office didn’t lose it. Other agents told me the only thing they can do is place an electronic request for me but because I already had those pending they couldn’t. Two of them did speak about issuing me a stamp instead and I received a call from my local office about a week later. That was another agent telling me that they can’t issue a 48 month extension but can send this stamp. 
 

To be honest, I still feel like it’s just a matter of luck. It helps to call multiple times and speak to different people because you never know what can actually be done to aid you because different agents have different fashion of talking and helping people. Most of those I spoke to seemed to just follow scripts, and because my request didn’t align with any of their scenarios they just rushed to dismiss me. 
 

Even today I received a second call from my local office but from a different agent when I called about not receiving an actual stamp alongside that confirmation, and unlike another agent who issued that confirmation he said that I can only obtain a stamp once my extension letter is expired, and same goes to receiving a 48 month extension. There’s logics to his statement regarding the stamp, I’m just stressing the different approaches of different agents over the same request.

They added the I-551 stamp to I-94 and a mugshot photo and called it a new process
