Sponsor Has Retirement Income Only

Hello,

 

I know that someone who wants to invite a relative over to the U.S. on a tourist visa has to show proof of income. Everywhere I read, it says to bring pay stubs and an employment letter. What if the sponsor only has retirement income and is not employed?

The relative should qualify on their own merits and show that they have strong ties to their home country.

You may be thinking of Immigrant Visa's, you do not sponsor a tourist visa.

That is inaccurate.  The visa applicant will have to qualify on their own.  No sponsors.

Not an issue.   There is NO sponsorship for tourist visas.

Question: what document does the relative (who is applying for a B2 visa) need to show how much money they have in the bank? And to show retirement income?

I do not recollect either being requested

A Bank Statement shows how much is in a bank account and presumably their retirement income

Well, the person applying for a tourist visa has to demonstrate their finances and that they are able to support themselves during the trip. So, if the tourist visa applicant is retired, how do they demonstrate their retirement income?

First you said the person inviting the applicant to visit has retirement income they want to show (which as stated is irrelevant) and now it's the applicant themselves who want to show retirement income?

 

You are making this a lot more complicated than it needs to be.

 

The applicant applies and answers the questions on the form. One of them will be asking about level of income, so the CO will see that at the interview. No documents are required (again as already mentioned) but if they want to bring a bank statement (which will show their retirement income being paid into their account) there's nothing stopping them.

Probably however they would show any form of income?
