Expect a surcharge if you are under 25 no matter who you hire from. Larger companies like Avis, Hertz etc are kore expensive but usually have better coverage for collision damage etc. Discount companies like Budget, Enterprise are cheaper at the base rare but add extra costs for insurance, one way etc

Never rent without including hire company vehicle damage insurance.. you can  choose to decline other forms of insurance if you want ..buying a third party hire vehicle insurance often means you need to pay full costs first then claim back for your insurer

Sorry. ,yes just rent short term for a trip before settling in for the wait for my EAD card.

Usually depend on age. And make sure ur DL can be use the whole time. Most states required the resident to get local DL I think 10-20 days after you reside in the area ?

I only exclusively rent from Avis because my partner has some status so we can get basic economy price for $25 ish/day but always 100% got a non basic economy. Smaller car with better gas milage always a better idea

You are adjjusting  status ,  so have you gotten a US DL from the state u live in

international dl is good for a year but u needed to get from home country

if you want to drive and rent ,  u need state driving license if u don't have one

you've been here too long to use your country's DL

we just went to DC and rented from  Budget -decent Nissan SUV with good gas mileage at a good rate

Do you have a valid driver's license for your state?

Some car rental agencies will not rent to people under 26.

International driver licenses only serve as legal translations of the original license, I think?

(And not all states/countries require it)

So if the original license is not valid anymore due to residency requirement, the translation won't be either.

NOTE: If you are living permanently in a foreign country, even though you may still hold a U.S. state issued driver's license, you must abide by local driver's licensing laws. Many countries require that you obtain a local license once you take up employment and/or residency.
