Hi, can anyone please confirm me do we need new police certificate from Canada for interview? Or that expired original police certificate which I submitted to NVC? Can anyone please confirm me?

Police certificates are valid for 2 years . You may look at the date on your police certificate. If it is more than 2 years old on the interview day then you will need a new certificate if you are still living in Canada.

"Important: Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued."

Hello, I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me. I am a German citizen, Canadian PR married to an American citizen (also Canadian PR). My husband got a job in the US and moved back there end of August 2023. He had an appointment with the US consulate in Calgary on August 3rd and dropped off the I-130 and nearly all civil documents including certified translations (the only document which was missing was the German police certificate) and paid the fee. Everything was mailed to Montreal and I was instructed (Packet 3) to fill out the DS-260 form which I did on August 22, 2023. On August 29, 2023 I sent the DS-260 confirmation page, copy of my passport and the copy of the checklist of documents for the interview back to the consulate in Montreal. The CEAC Visa Status Check  says "Case Created: August 1, 2023" "Case is currently at Montreal" and Case Last Updated: September 5, 2023 - which update says READY your case is ready for you to schedule an interview at the US Consulate General Montreal. ...... Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment."

We assumed that this means our DQ date is September 5, 2023. We have seen on this Forum and on Reddit that applicants with later DQ dates have received their interview already while we are still waiting. We understand that our PD is only August 1, 2023. We reached out to the Consulate in Montreal on December 21, 2023 and received a response on January 8 saying that our "case is currently pending review by a consular officer. As soon as the review is complete, the Visa Unit will advise of the next steps if anything else is needed to continue processing the case". We also contacted NVC and were told that our case number (MTL2023XXXXXX) is not a NVC case number and need to contact the Consulate directly. We also never uploaded any documents to NVC and never received an email from them other than the DS-260 confirmation.

When reading the steps online, we do not seem to fit into the process unless we misunderstand something. Is anyone able to confirm that we have been indeed DQ'd on September 5, 2023 and if there is anything else we should do. Thank you in advance for anyone who can share their experience and expertise.

It sounds like your case was accepted as a DCF (direct consular filing), which does not follow the "typical" processing workflow of I-130 submitted to USCIS, once approved, case is sent to NVC where the DS-260 is filled out and once that and the AOS are approved, it's put in line for an interview.

DCF is not common in Canada, so you're likely going to have to do a bit of searching on the main forum for further information.

Did you receive your German PRC?

You will still have to do an immigration medical, so while you're waiting for information, make sure you have your immunization records.  If you don't, I recommend having a titres test done now.  In either case, if you're missing any required vaccinations, begin fulfilling this requirement while you're still covered under Canadian health care.

Any ideas how long it takes to get tracking information on a passport? Or if they give one for drop off locations?

I'm not sure if the delay is my fault - I changed the delivery location after the interview (as I was refused for missing medical results and got a 221G).

The Visa was issued on Friday (2nd February), the embassy stated that my passport was returned to me via courier (yesterday 6 February).

The initial delivery was to a CPC location on Toronto.

1. Your Canadian police Certificate is valid until Feb 2025.

2. In my opinion expired police certificate from India from age of 16 years to Dec 2022(assuming you are Indian citizen) should work provided you have been living in Canada since Dec 2022 and never been to India for more than 6 months after Dec 2022 that you already said.

Get opinion from other members with regards to #2 to be sure.

Your police certificate from India never expires.  The only reason you would need to update is if you had been in India after the police certificate was issued.

I got approved at my interview yesterday. I can't believe this process is basically over. Just waiting for my passport to arrive in the mail and I'm free!

You'll be truly free once you do citizenship ;)

Good luck with your move!

Thank you so very much for this information @mam521

This makes so much more sense now. My husband started his job with only 6 weeks notice.

I have all my vaccination records from Germany integrated in the Canadian System. Just trying to figure out how to proof that I had chickenpox since I didn't get the vaccine for it.

After your message we also sent another email to Montreal and attached my Germany Police Certificate (with certified translation) and the I-864 Affidavit of Support with my husband's tax returns. These were the only civil documents missing. Now we have to wait and hope for a response soon. It is frustrating because the DCF process in other countries seems to go much quicker than it does in Montreal.

My husband got a 221g at his Interview on December 13, 2023. He then got notification to send in his passport on January 16th. "We are writing to request the following documents to move forward with you immigration visa application - Passport" How long from when they received your passport to when you got it back in the mail? They have had his for 2 weeks and his visa status has not changed since January 16th.

My case was a bit different - the CO kept my passport. It took about 6 weeks after they received my medical results to review and issue the visa. For folks that had to send their passports subsequently, it seems like it took about 1-3 weeks?

Yes! I got my passport Friday (9 February) evening (to my address). It was issued (based on what is on the visa) 3 business days after the official approval. So, I got my passport 1 week after my case changed to issued on the tracker.
