My question is since I am doing the IR1( immediate relative) I wanted to know if the copy of the NOA2 and the NVC document would work for me if I sent to my husband to get the Lagos embassy with it. I heard somewhere along the way that the NVC will schedule our interview, but if the inquiry line thing worked for some I wanted to know if it would work for me as well. Please let me know what you think.

Mrs. Kindel,

I don't know if anybody responded to your post, but here I go. I hope I'm understanding your question. I filed a K-1 for my fiance. When I received my NOA2 from NVC, I kept calling them to see if an interview had been scheduled. I was told that Lagos assigns the date (maybe it's different for IR1). It took about 3 weeks after NOA2 for an interview date. I kept calling NVC and they would tell me what was going on in the Lagos computer. Finally, I called and they informed me that I had an interview date of Aug. 1. I was also told to scan and send my fiance the copy of the NOA2 so he could go and collect his packets. Thank goodness I did because he never received anything in the mail. I suggest calling NVC (# should be on NOA2 form) and asking them what they see in the computer.

I know in some countries NVC does the scheduling for certain visas. You need to see if this applies to the Lagos office, but it seems unlikely from other posts that I have read. Most people seem to be receiving appts. for Sept. and Oct. right now. I forgot to look at your timeline, but I didn't go to the interview with my fiance and they didn't ask that many questions. Of course, I sent my fiance a 3-ring binder that would barely close with info. showing the authenticity of our relationship. If you can't go, make sure to send a prepondorous amount of documentation. I wrote an email talking about some of the things I sent and others added to it. Just click on my name and you will see my post.

I would like to ask you a personal question if you don't mind. When you first met your SO, did it bother you that he was shorter and smaller than you? If so, how did you get over it? I look at your pics and you two look so cute together. I look at my pics with my fiance and I think we look odd because of the height difference. I keep wondering what our wedding pics will look like.

Only NVC schedules for interview for CR-1/IR-1. Lagos embassy does not set them, lagos sets for the k-visas. After your case is complete at NVC it can take anywhere from 3-7months for them to schedule the interview. They schedule it a month before the actual interview date. My case stayed at NVC for 7 months post case completion. K- visas are faster but when they get here you have all the aos/EAD paperwork to do which can take months. With the CR-1, once they get here, their green card is sent and can start work sooner. You can take a look at my timeline.

06/06/05 I-130 NOA1

06/14/05 K-3 NOA1

07/08/05 k-3 NOA2

07/22/05 K-3 leaves NVC to Lagos

08/08/05 Hubby picks up interview packet from embassy

11/17/05 K-3 interview (denied, C.O refused to take co-sponsor for k-3)

12/16/05 I-130 NOA2

01/03/06 NVC assigns case number

02/15/06 Case complete (thank you James Shortcuts- only 6 weeks!)

04/19/06 tired of waiting, filed k-3 #2 ( petition is still lost in oblivion)

09/11/06 NVC scheduled CR-1 interview/ on to Lagos (thank God after 7 months of waiting!)

10/14/06 Interview date (success!)

10/18/06 Hubby goes to pick up visa- not ready ( ugh what's going on!)

10/19/06 Visa in hand ( thank you God!)

10/29/06 Together at last :)

Whole process 1 year and 4 months
