Visa Medical Review London

I had my medical today at Visa Medical London. No where near as crazy as it has been described in VJ.

I was out in 50 minutes. 

First at the reception provided ID and filled out extended medical forms. Yes no check boxes.

Then a lovely lady took my X-ray. Asked her about it. Answer: It’s very good. 

Next went to vaccine nurse. Was given two boosters. £110. 

Lastly I was called by a lovely doctor. Said it was an easy one. No prior history of anything. Took height and weight. Then checked lymph nodes and blood pressure. And took some blood. I was done in 10 min.

 

Scary reception lady took £490 and said bye😂

 

My gp summary mentioned asthma but nothing was asked about it.

I had my medical today and thought I would provide a review as well, just to help any one else who has theirs scheduled.

 

First up, I printed my patient and vaccination records from my GP's online portal. I asked my GP for a 'summary care record' but all they gave me was a few sheets detailing my last 5 GP appointments, which I didn't find particularly helpful (I ended up leaving these at home and just sticking with the print outs I had done myself). I also brought along my paperwork: they ask for your UK ACRO Police Certificate, passport, embassy interview letter and then the records I had at the reception desk. Nothing else was required from my side.

 

When you arrive, the receptionist will ask for those documents and then take photocopies of them, whilst you're asked to fill out and sign two forms - one is to consent to them conducting the medical, and the other is a questionnaire with a bunch of standard questions, e.g. have you ever been hospitalised for an illness or injury before, are you on any medication. It's all yes/no and easy to follow but the receptionist said if I was unsure about the answer to any question to leave it blank and discuss with the doctor. Once I had those forms filled out, I turned them in to the reception and was asked to sit in the waiting room.

 

After 5 minutes or so, I got called by the first doctor. She was very professional, checked through my vaccination records and confirmed I was up-to-date on all but two (Hep B and Polio) and told me I'd need to get those done for £100 for the both. After confirming that I had no allergies, she gave me one in each arm and then sent me back to the waiting room. I waited back in there for no more than 2 more minutes, before a nurse came out and brought me to another room to have my x-ray. This just involved me taking off my t-shirt and placing my chest against a plate. Again no more than 2 minutes or so, before going back to the waiting room. Another few minutes wait and I was then called by another doctor for my checkup. He was really friendly, we chatted about Netflix and the entertainment/streaming industry for most of the time, and he interspersed the conversation with questions about my medical history. After saying he had no issues with my responses, he then took some blood and did a quick eye test. After that it was a full body checkup (I had to strip to my underwear) including blood pressure, pulse check, heart rate and pressing my stomach. He also tested my reflexes and lymph nodes. He was so easy going that I felt at ease the entire time. Finally he said I was all clear and he didn't find any issues with my checkup. He then escorted me back to the waiting room.

 

Another short wait and I was called back to reception where I was handed a proof of vaccination form that I was told to bring with me to the US and share with my physician there for them to log. They were explicit in saying I did not need to bring these to the embassy with me. They also gave me back my passport (they take this from you at the beginning and tell you they'll return it at the end), as well as gave me an information sheet about what I can expect next. The receptionist told me the results from the lab usually take 5 working days to process and 'no news is good news', so basically if you don't hear back from them within 5 days, you're all clear. She then took payment from me (£480 total) and sent me on my way. 

 

I was in and out in no more than an hour, which considering how thorough they were and that it involved two vaccines and a blood test, shows how smoothly run the place is. Everyone was very friendly and explained everything thoroughly so I felt very comfortable walking out. For anyone worried about their upcoming visa medical I can say there's truly nothing to worry about!
