We definitely have enough expectant and new moms to have it's own thread.

So here's my dilemna.

This baby is coming in 6 weeks or so and we don't have a name for him yet.

Hubby only likes Jamal and Noor, which don't strike me as keepers.

He also tries to convince me that the man mostly picks the names.....haven't heard that one yet.

Here's my list: Riyadh, Yasin, Hasan, Nasir, Sufiyan, Hafid, Hasan, Anas, Zachariyah....he says it's too long, Jibreel,

and Nasim. Aren't they great names?

We are on the verge of flipping a coin to choose the name. He may come home un named. I just dont

feel like he's a Jamal or a Noor...just doesn't feel..right.

Any suggestions?

Ok since I seen you posted Hasan twice and that is a name I really love (yes it is my husbands name) so just my two cents.

See I knew I had some great names. I like Sufyan first, but I have always loved Hasan..didn't see i doubled it up on the list. It's my brothers middle name, and I loved it so much it's my son's middle name...

Maybe I can sneak it on the birth cert. (insert evil laugh), and just let him call him Jamal.

I do like Noor, that was my husbands choice if we were having a boy. I also like Hasan and I like Idriss and Idir a lot. Yasin or Yacine is good too.

For our girl, I like Laila a lot, and Amira. We are trying to let my mother in law 'choose' the name, she has wanted to name all of her grandchildren and all of her kids totally shut her down. In fact, the last grandchild that was born, her son told her he would use her choice and then at the last minute changed it, she had her feelings really hurt. SO I told Adnan we would go with something she picks, so far that list is down to Noura (female of Noor ) or Meriem. I still have a few months though so I am hoping she will come up with one of my favorites. If not I will probably stick with Noura.

When I had my son and I had it down to 2 or 3 names I really liked, I would stand at the back door and practice calling him, figure out which one I could really see myself yelling, and thats how I made the final choice.. Maybe you could try it )

His first comment on naming was that the grandparents got to choose and then he recanted. Hmph. I understand

it's his first born but i dunno.

Leila was almost my daughters name. I like the male version of Amira: Amir but my sister

has threatened a lost limb if I steal her FUTURE sons name.

Another question... what is the expectations of caring for the newborn are present?

I guess it can't really happen with a 2 day old, but if we wait I think it will hurt him more...

The kid's going to grow up in the U.S., so it's not bad to pick something sort of pronounceable for all the boring Anglos, if having people mispronounce your kid's name would drive you crazy. (if it won't drive you nuts, go for whatever you like.) I like Zachariyah (or Zachariah) off of your list. It can nickname to 'Zach', useful when the boy is a moody American pre-teen.

Oh, and little 'Anas' will be '#######' on the playground very quickly.

I love that name too. One of my favorite students in Italy was a Dario, and I've loved the name ever since

ETA: Daria for a girl though only reminds me of the MTV show.

Our son's middle name is Faris, which translate to royal horseman in Arabic. It really fit for our family because we are big "horse" people.

My husband made a deal with me that if he could name our first born son the name that he wanted, I could name all of our other children. Of course they will always have Muslim names.

Our son was circumcised the day after he was born. I'm pretty sure that my husband was maybe 5 or 6 when he was circumcised and yes, they did have a big party! I think it's a personal choice b/w you and your husband about when you want to do that. I know that it was very painful for my son, but at least he won't have memories of it. My husband was okay with this being done. Sadly, he wasn't with me when our son was born.

Also, you have to put vaseline on the place where it was done for a couple of weeks. I can imagine that it is alot easier to do this for a little baby than for a boy that is 5 or 6!

I liked Zacariah from your list because at least in school kids can call him Zack! Remind him that your child will be attending school in the USA. Trust me, I have a very arabic name and my school years were not easy!
