Old news. But no not really, they are trying to make it so the petition processing doesn't take longer than it already does. The fees are about on par as it would be immigrating to Australia or the UK. For me anyway, other expenses, such as plane tickets and wedding stuff is going to cost more than the filing fees.

I came back from the Philippines on July 3rd after proposing to my fiancee in person.

I had researched the process before going over there and I thought I'll take my time to get it all together, until I checked the site and saw that it was going to $455.

Spent all month getting all the paperwork completed and the G-325a from my fiancee finally arrived on the 24th.

I put everything together yesterday in a lateral binder, complete with tabbed seperators, cover letter and summary pages for evidence. Showed it to my parents to have them review it for anything they might see that I missed. My mom says it looks very professional and that, "If you did work like this for projects when you were in school you could have gotten better grades." lol

Anyway, I mailed it today return receipt requested. Luckly it only has to be postmarked before the 30th.

The waiting game begins.

hey, it could be worse. i'm a permanent resident in canada and to file as a spouse, it costs $575. then, at the interview $975 is due.... not including the almost $200 the medical costs. they only give you about a month's notice for your interview, so if you don't have the money by your interview date, you run the risk of being denied. then you have to refile, and the process takes about a year or more.

May 19, 2008--move to the US

June 6, 2008--marriage

July 12, 2008--filed I-485 and I-765

July 14, 2008--NOA for both

October 3, 2008--work permit received
