Had our combo N-400/I-751 Interview on 4/21/23. We did not send in a request for combo interview letter with our application like others have done. The officer had our entire I-751 case file on the table in front of him and simply stated "your I-751 case has already been looked at twice so I'm not going to waste any more time on it" and approved it on the spot. He then immediately proceeded with the N400 interview.

I-751 approved same day. No new green card would be issued as N-400 was also approved on the same day.

I-751took roughly 18 months to approve but I want to stress that,  outside of receiving the notice of receipt for our I-751 application, there was absolutely no movement/updates on our I-751 till we submitted the N-400. Our I-751 was mysteriously transferred to another location immediately (same day) after we submitted the N-400.....no way that's just a simple coincidence. It obviously moved because we submitted the N-400. So you can interpret that however you want but in my opinion, they will basically sit on your I-751 for an indefinite amount of time until something major prompts them to do otherwise (in our case, the N-400).

Of course this won't be the case for everyone but it certainly is for some like myself so one should not assume it's a myth based on contrary experience. It's basically luck of the draw.

I guess my N400 isn't "major" for them, then

Your N-400 has been pending only 4 months.

Bingo. Although N400 processing times have been decreasing and getting so fast that some people get interviews before their 3rd year as a GC holder (rare but not unheard of), 4 months is not a long time for it.

Hoping that OP hears from USCIS in the next couple of months, it's almost over hang on there!

On a serious note, OP keep venting, we are all cheering for you

😂 Our I-751 package was over 500 pages and we submitted 37 docs to the online N-400 application (not sure of total pages). Honestly the only thing I would change if I had to do it over again (pls god no) would be submit quarterly bank statements instead of every single month. It probably would have cut our package down to ~300 pages.

Mine was nothing like that, I doubt I could have afforded the postage.

Our I-751 was 77 pages. Our lawyer scanned most  documents 2 and 4 to a page.

If I were an USCIS supervisor I would give 6 pounders to ISOs I want to fire.

Well, apparently the ISO that originally had my 6 pounder “baby” was fired, and so was the next and the one after that one…

Given how often ISOs quit their jobs, this is plausible.

As some of you may know, I applied for my 751 back in February 2022. My N400 has been pending since February 2023, and it has done nothing to "unlock" my 751. It has somehow been the message in VJ that the N400 speeds up the 751, but I just wanted to throw a word of caution out there and say it is not necessarily the case. So don't have high hopes when you submit the N400 and spend close to $800.

At this pace, it seems that none of my files have connected to each other, and that my 751 will run its natural course as if I had never submitted the N400.

It’s only been 4 months since you filed N400.

…so?

my issue is not the timing itself. It’s that other people from the same field office are getting it much faster. It’s the inconsistency that bugs me

My wife has been waiting for ROC for a year and a half. Her N400 interview is Tuesday (in two business days). She waited about 5 months for her N400 interview.

I know you are required to file both the ROC and N400. You can’t skip the ROC step. So consider it a formality and hope the N400 solves your problems. Good luck.
