To those who have done this process, where did you get your passport documents notarized? I'm based in SC and would be filing through the NY Consulate. I can't get hold of the consulate (no surprise) to ask what else I need to send over. Does anyone know about the NY office and it's requiements?

I'll be doing my naturalization process in September, but I would like to retain my South African citizenship as well. I know I'm filing through the NY office, but I cannot find a list of required documents on their website and they're not very helpful when I call in. Also, where does one get documents notarized, the consulate said I could do this at a bank, but the site says I need them done by the county office, and then those need to be signed off by the state office. This all feels very confusing and overwhelming 😭

Hello,

You will need form BI-1664 & BI529 if you type in google these forms you can find them.

Copy of your green card.

Letter stating why you want to retain South African Citizenship.

Copy of your South African Passport.

$25 fee Money Order

You need to do this before you become a US citizen. As far as getting the documents notarized you can just go to a UPS store and ask for a notary that is what we did.

You can PM me if you have any other questions. We did this a couple years ago.
