(The Center Square) – With an unknown volume of fentanyl and other drugs pouring through the southern border between ports of entry in Arizona, federal agents recently seized enough fentanyl to kill more than 450 million people at several ports of entry and checkpoints.

Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations-Tucson Field Office agents working through “Operation Blue Lotus,” and Border Patrol Tucson and Yuma Sector agents working through “Operation Four Horsemen” seized substantial amounts of methamphetamine and over a ton of fentanyl. The operations occurred from March 6 to May 8 at four ports of entry and at two checkpoints.
With two milligrams considered a lethal dose, one ton of fentanyl, or 2,000 pounds, is enough to kill 453,592,400 people.

OP note:  population of the USA in 2021 was 331 million............

I've never seen it explained why fentanyl is so attractive if it's so deadly.

Fake deadly pills ..cheap for the Mexican Cartels to make.

https://www.opb.org/article/2023/05/30/oregon-worsening-drug-crisis-fentanyl-overdoses/

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, it costs drug cartels roughly 10 cents to produce a fentanyl pill that can sell for $10 to $30. In a recent case out of Oregon, federal prosecutors said a 19-year-old was charged with selling powdered fentanyl as well as hundreds of fake prescription pills that contained illicit fentanyl for $2 per pill

Also, Fentanyl is used adulterate other drugs to boost profit margins. Unfortunately the people doing this tend to be unskilled and this is a common source of Fentanyl overdoses: it is common for the people who die from overdoses to have had no desire at all for Fentanyl, and had they been taking pure meth, coke, etc. they would be alive today.

Less than a drop in the bucket. Trying to prevent Fentanyl overdoses through border security is futile.

There is something to be said for certain presidential candidates ( Vivek , Donald , Nikki  ) pledging to deploy the military against cartels that export Fentanyl to America.

I was reading up on the American conquest of what was then northern Spain, and it turns put there was appetite in the early 19th century to conquer the entire country. What held the country back was opposition to the expansion of slavery. See

Assuming Russia completes its conquest of Ukraine, China follows suit with Taiwan, and the rest of the world does nothing about it, then U.S. will have no impediments to completing the conquest of Mexico. Here is how it will go:

* US starts droning cartel leaders in Mexico

*  Mexican president is forced to publicly ally with cartels. I mean he pretty much is there now.

He surely did that recently in press release ….claiming fentanyl is not made in Mexico and Americans just don’t take care of their children .

I’m hoping they will designate Mexican Cartels as terrorist organizations…

Nice read on Republica de Tejas.

terrorist designation would allow prosecutors to more easily go after Americans who help the cartels

Does Fentanyl have a Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée?

China from what I can gather is the main source but how can you know?

I was just wondering about the source, and I have heard about China.  Surely the "authorities" know for sure???  Are they not sharing, for political reasons?

Precursors are made in China and sold to the cartels so they can make and export fentanyl.

U.S. should be using sticks and maybe carrots on South American narcotic cartels to force their middlemen to Mexico to stop poisoning US bound cocaine and heroin with fentanyl.
