Joint Sponsor or Househould Member?

Good day,

 

I would like to know what would be the good choice between the two? my Mom will be the intending joint sponsor since i do not meet the income requirement. she is a us citizen long time ago. we live in the same household. Dad did not work due to health issues so they do the married filling jointly. I did check the poverty guidelines and she is qualified for the sponsorship.

Who May Be Considered a Household Member for Purposes of Form I-864A?

For purposes of this contract, one or more of the following individuals may sign the Form I-864A as a household member if at least 18 years of age:

1. The intending immigrant, if the sponsor seeks to rely on an intending immigrant’s continuing income to establish the sponsor’s ability to support the intending immigrant’s spouse or children;
2. The spouse, parent, child, adult son or daughter, or sibling relative of the sponsor, if that relative has the same principal residence as the sponsor; or
3. Any other individual whom the sponsor has lawfully claimed as a dependent on the sponsor’s most recent Federal income tax return even if that person does not live at the same residence as the sponsor. If more than one individual agrees to help support the sponsored immigrant, each individual must sign a separate Form I-864A.

My guess is that either would work. I am certainly no expert in this area...

My thought is since they live in the same household, and the father doesn’t contribute any income, the OP can just have the mom fill out the I864A and pay there is no need for the father to do anything.  If the mother fills out an I864 as a joint sponsor, the father will most likely need to fill out an I864A even with no income.

my kid is currently claimed by my mother(her grandma) on her taxes as dependent. so with my understanding since i did not file any taxes recently i just put 0 ?

No, you would put 1 as the entire sentence applies, not just the part you highlighted.

thank you guys, i have another question.

 

since i did not file any taxes. should i still upload transcript? i have transcripts due to stimulus.  because it says incomplete if i dont provide one. i have already submitted my letter explaining my unemployment.

If you have IRS transcripts, yes, upload them.
