When should I file Form I-865 (Updating Petitioner Address)?

Hello. Could anyone shed light on when I should file Form I-865 to update my (the petitioner's) address? I recently moved, so my physical address has changed, though my mailing address remains the same (so no worries of missing mail regarding my petition.)

The instructions at the USCIS say I only need to file if I have at some point filed Form I-864. However, I have not filed this form yet. At this point I have only filed Form I-130, and am waiting for NOA2 on that, which will probably be a while, as I only filed it on 2/11/2023.

I tried updating my address on the USCIS website in my profile, as I filed the I-130 online, and it said I am not allowed to update my address at this stage of the petition process. :/

So my question is, do I need to update my address at all yet, or do I just wait to update the physical address at the next stage?

Thanks for your thoughts!

If I-864 has not been filed, I-865 is not filed.

You can write a letter to USCIS updating your physical address, citing your I-130 case number. The letter should note previous and current physical and mailing addresses.

You actually CAN file I-865 even if you have  yet to file I-864. I've done it twice while I-130 was still pending. Updated with no issues, confirmation letter received both times and I still haven't filed I-864.
