We've been exploring a lot of the beautiful, natural places around here. We go for short hikes, pack a picnic, take drives through the country.

Oh yeah, and I'm Netflix's newest customer. :)

But I'm looking forward to others' suggestions.

My hubby and I make a point to record a couple of our favourite shows every week and save them up for a Friday/Saturday/Sunday night. We go to the local QuikTrip and buy a pint or two of ice cream (we get the cheaper, yummier brand Bellafonte, which costs about a dollar each), then curl up in bed and watch TV together. It's cheap, fun, and sometimes even romantic ;)

For some reason, when I went to visit Bee in April there were a lot of thunderstorms, and we would sit in our room with the lights out and watch the lightning storm.

Also, we would have movie night after dinner, or we'd just go and take a walk.

How about a picnic at your local park?

There is a free weekly paper here that lists things to do, and some of them are free or cheap. Sometimes a phone book will have a list of activities and places of interest toward the front. There are outdoor concerts and guided nature walks, especially during the summer. Sometimes universities will screen free movies. Some museums have free admission on certain days. We've played video games and board games together. We've taken a picnic and spent the day at a state park or the beach. Another thread mentioned letterboxing, and we're going to try that. letterboxing Disc golf is fun, easy to learn, and cheap, just the cost of a couple of discs. There are courses all over the U.S. and some other countries, usually in city parks, and there is usually no charge to use them. disc golf The local chamber of commerce or visitor's center might also have some suggestions you've never heard of, even if you've lived there for a while. If you have friends who like to cook, you can have a casserole swap -- each person makes one casserole for each person or family participating, and then you swap them out so each person goes home with one of each. Cheap dinner and a fun way to socialize.

Great thread. Please keep the ideas coming. We're also flat broke and looking for cheap fun.

It's sure that being broke with all the fees limits activities.

Here I have an account at the library (free :) ), we go see movies from time to time (matinee) or go to the cheap 2$ movie theater even though the movies are older.

We love hiking and try to take the time for that every week-end.

We meet friends & family for dinners at home, we hang out in the shops (no need to buy to look around and dream).

Ok it's not all romantic though...

But if you want romantic: a picnic is great, you can have a giant bubble bath with candles, work on a special dinner together, walk around the neighborhood at sunset or under the starts. etc,

Me and my husband like to do BBQ's. Usually each weekend my husband and I invite from 1-4 friends over. I've discovered that I love to grill on the barbie. We sometimes go to free concerts in the parks, there are a lot on LI in the summer. Of course there are walks and drives as many people mentioned. Plus, even going to a local town and walking around. Sometimes we go out to eat at lunch time rather then dinner as it is cheaper. Plus, my husband just got his library card this week so that he will be able to check out things.

My husband also has a nice attitude about money - for example he wanted to go with friends to visit another friend in Conn. and they all don't drive - so I said I'll give you the money - he was like no - it will be expensive by the time I pay for the train and food and we all go out - then he said I'm not going any place (meaning he isn't leaving the USA any time soon) so when I'm working I'll have the money and go.

It helps that he understands the financial difficulties.

Oh my...

You actually have your husband here in the country and you are bored? It IS possible to do a lot of things in LI and NYC for cheap.

Take the train to the city and window shop. There are many communities you can visit to try new food without breaking the bank.

On LI there are beaches. Get out there and get your tan on! If there are waves you can body surf.

People watching in all those cool little clicky LI communities is cool.

There are state parks - not sure which ones are in your area but you can find them on google I am sure.

I am waiting for my Elena and we are both complaining we are bored out our wits because we are not together. When we're together we are very active most days of the week. We go somewhere and do something at least once a day.

Good luck to you - and get out of the house! LOL

Oooooh...I like the State Park idea. Thanks for that one!

We read the local newspaper supplement that lists weekend activities around the area. We look for free or cheap amusement, like concerts or festivals.

It's fun to do a hobby together. We have done scrapbooking and winemaking. We even did a play-doh model once. It was a hoot.
