I had joined an international chat/forum/download site off of my mobile phone of all things called Prodigits (it's also on the web now too)...but it's just a simple site. I went on to chat and go in the forums ....meeting people from all over the world (mostly Australia, England, and Scotland)...I had a pic up...the one below :P and I was getting all sorts of messages...even some pervy...or some wanting me to marry them just for a green card to the US then we could get a divorce :jest:

I only added those that I knew of to my "buddy list" ...never accepting any random buds. It was sometime in March of 2005...I got like 6 bud requests in one day....I read thru each of them laughing at the ridiculous comments some had made....There were two that struck my eye...one was my mate Wayne from England..he and I are still the best of mates....he rings me up every so often still just to see if I'm ok...and the other was Pete....Pete sent me a real nice message talking about my smile. It just captured my heart at that moment....and something inside of me kept telling me to ADD HIM to my bud list...so I did...and haven't looked back.

It took us a couple months to get talking real well with one another.....once we did...it was texting all the time...then of course I was skeptical for a while..and didn't believe he was from England...so I said..ok, if you're from England, let me ring you up. (The first night was very late...and I was just made aware of the time differences lol)...the next night..I rang up...and low and behold...a British Man! lol Bestill my heart. lol..... We talked and texted hour after hour....phone bills to prove it...it was like we had known each other for years....Pete made arrangements to come meet my children and I that September of '05.....the first time he had ever been on a plane...let alone out of the country....but he took the chance....as did I.

I was questioned and given the 3rd degree from several people about letting a stranger stay in my home....I said...If I didn't trust him, I wouldn't have him in my home. And if there are any bad vibes, then there's always a hotel....but...as I suspected, nothing bad at all....It was just as we had said on the phone....it was as if we had known each other for years...So, he's been flying back and forth...and I've been over to England (met the family).....My kids love Pete to death...and are excited he is going to be their stepdaddy...We just want to "officially" start our lives together finally....

The pic that started it all....

Online in a dodgey chat room. ;)

The usual drill of eventual private chats, then emails, then his first phone call wherein I got to hear that lite Northern Irish accent where every sentence sounds like a question. Oh, and I got to hear his laugh. Which pretty much did me in.

Five months later he visited me for three weeks. On his return visit to me three months later, we dropped the I129F in the Fed Ex box and the rest is history. We didn't waste much time - we're old.

I don't deserve him. But he doesn't deserve me either. So that makes us even - and happy.

There are some lovely stories on here. (L)

I was visiting friends in Myrtle Beach as I had worked there for the summer after university and I went out on Valentines Day for a drink with a girl I had met (we were both single and Valentines is the worst time). She invited her cousin who is now my fiance. Five years and 5 months later, we are getting married on 15th September.

Wow I'm surprised at the amount of people here who met in pretty unconventional circumstances.

Disco and I met as postgrads at university here in England. She was this crazy artist girl and I was a geeky muso. We were good friends for a few months before we started dating (well, making out while purporting to watch Predator, anyhow). She was cute and exotic!

And that, as they say, was that. As far as I'm concerned we are now the most yukky, horrible, vomit-inducing PDA-prone couple I NEVER wanted to imagine!

Lauren and I met in Santiago, Chile. I had been travelling for many months and arrived in santiago on christmas day 2004. I was shattered and went straight to bed, not before seeing two girls in the hostel dorm on their way out for a night of revelling (It was already midnight). The following morning i went to explore Santiago, noticing on my way out that the two girls were sound asleep.

I returned to the hostel around 5 pm and found two girls asleep in the same beds, i miade some comment under my breath about them still being asleep at this time. It turns out that they were two different girls one named Lauren and the other named....err..Lauren. They had just arrived for a 4 week vacation in Chile and were exhausted from the flight. I felt bad about waking them up so took them out for dinner.

3 wonderful days together and we went our separate ways, not thinking we would ever see each other again. We met up 3 weeks later for another couple of days of bliss (although it turns out that they had fallen out over me and now don't speak). I Continued my trip around south america and we kept in touch via email and the occaisional phone call - Lauren then flew out to meet me in Buenos Aries for ten days during her spring break. I returned home to England and we then had a number of trips to see each other over the next few years before I finally asked her to marry me.

Met mine on an online music chatroom and have been inseparable ever since. :luv:

Actually, I don't think I ever mentioned the entire story.

My baby and I were both on a messageboard for our favorite band Rush. I was always posting about the music or band and sometimes goofed around with other topics. I noticed him because of his avatar. It was a dolmen that he took me to go see on one of my visits. I asked him what it was, if it was something like stonehenge and he explained it's history and I found it fascinating. I noticed he was writing from Wales and I heard legendary folklore and history about it and I thought he was a very nice guy. My first words to him were "Hi Dan!", thinking he wouldn't respond but he did.

Eventually, I posted my photo in an introduction topic and I noticed Dan started to talk to me more but I thought nothing romantic of it. In fact, I was chatting with another guy from California. Eventually, things fell apart with the california man, total disaster and I was so upset, I announced I was quitting. Dan wrote to me telling me he didn't want me to go. I told him I wanted to stay away for awhile but he made me promise to let him know when I returned. After some time, I went back to the board and Dan and I started to talk which led to a romance between us and me realizing he liked me when he saw my photo but never told me.

The more we talked, the more we were falling in love. I told him I loved him and he took my breath away when he said he loved me too. Unfortunately people from the board were starting to find out including the california man and he tried breaking us up. He would taunt Dan saying I was his phony girlfriend and he would taunt me saying Dan has a deep dark secret that will make me regret getting together with him. Some fool even made a topic saying I was mental. All of this made me leave and eventually Dan followed me.

Despite negativity from certain family members, I went to Wales to see him in person and it was the best move I ever made. (L)

WELL..................i have Andrew Lloyd Webber to thank for me meeting my husband! Here's how.....

*Andrew Lloyd Webber made Phantom of the Opera

*Gerard Butler starred as the Phantom in the movie

*I became a (pathetic) obsessed fan of Gerard Butler and joined his fan website (he's Scottish btw)

*In the course of being a fan I met a lovely Scottish girl (Julie) on the fansite and we became fast friends

*I had always wanted to study abroad, so having a friend in the area, I chose Scotland

*Two months before I was scheduled to head over, Julie wanted me so get to know some of her friends before I flew over, so she popped a few of them into our conversation on MSN

Long story shorter, John was one of them and we spoke for 5 hourse straight that night, and every night afterwards. I spent six months over there as a student and then he came over to visit for the 3 months allowed on VWP and we said, screw being apart, we love each other and we are going to get married!

I love you Andrew Lloyd Webber!!!!!

Actually, technically I should thank Gaston Leroux for writing the Phantom of the Opera novel.....but thats just getting TOO geeked out...I will refrain....

I lost 150lbs and the marriage failed.

Your marriage failed because you lost 150lbs?!?

Like a proper Brit, I met my wife down the pub. :D

This was in Santa Barbara, CA BTW, not in the UK. I already lived in the USA at that point because I moved here for work after getting my PhD.

In part, the more I lost, the better I looked, the more confident and independent I became, ex felt bad about himself, he went psycho, his mum went psycho, they became controlling and scary...but yeah :P whew for getting outta that! He's happy now though, he's with a new girl who is over 300lbs - I think that's his "thing" lol To each his own :P

I think that is a typical response. But congrats on the loss

Neal and I met on a messageboard for a band I used to really like but now only sort of like. Lucky coincidence, he was not a fan but a friend of his convinced him to join the board. They stopped being friends, but Neal stayed on the messageboard and used to talk the silliest rubbish. Every once in a while we'd reply to each other, but nothing more than that. This was back in 2003 or so. He actually got another friend Pete to join the messageboard, and I ended up talking to Pete on MSN before I ever conversed with Neal. I didn't even realize they were friends in real life. I was always greatly amused by Neal and finally he added me to MSN to talk (sometime beginning of 2004). We talked more an more, and by that summer, we were messaging constantly. I began to really like him, but felt rather ashamed of my feelings for someone I knew I'd never meet. Plus, I was convinced he didn't feel the same way about me. Fall of 2004 rolls around, and I am really quite smitten and it's driving me crazy! Especially since he seemed to like me, but essentially told me I was too far away. Finally, in November of 2004, he told me that he loved me and we decided to try a relationship. We were both pretty shy, so didn't even talk on the phone until after that! Then I flew out to meet him on January 1, 2005. Since then, I have lived with him off and on for almost a year, and he has visited me over here six times. He asked me to marry him in August 2005, but we didn't make any concrete plans (I was still in school, so it didin't make sense). I lived with him from June through December of last year, and before I came back to the US, we decided to file for the I-129F.

That sounds a lot like us. You said Dodgey....you can tell your husband is from NI and I want to say Derry.

We met on a sub-culture message board. He was making fun of my good friend and ranting about how so many Americans are "plastic paddys" and I PMed him and told him to knock it in the head. It went from there and then I realized he had a girlfriend. So I tried to stop flirting... it didn't take long for him to tell me he was on the verge of dumping her anyways. We met in May 2005. We talked pretty much everyday e-mails on our cells at work to aol IM on my phone at work(5 hour time difference). We went around drunkenly telling people we were going to get married. I will never forget hearing his sexy accent for the first time.... it still makes me melt. He came to see me in July 2005. We were engaged before he left. We were constantly filling out paperwork and then decided we just couldn't wait and there was only one form to fill out to get me and my son to Northern Ireland. So he came back in Sept. 2005 and we married on Oct. 4, moved to Ireland on Oct. 16, had a beautiful little girl in Aug. 2006.

We do things fast.

Thinking about heading home. But not sure yet.

May 2005 - met Chris on message board

July 2005 - came to the states to meet me

July 2005 - got engaged

Aug. 2005 - Decided we couldn't wait

Sept. 2005 - came to visit, plan wedding

Oct. 4, 2005 - Got married

Oct. 16, 2005 - moved to Ireland

August 2006 - our daughter was born
