If his children are US citizens over 21, then they can petition their parents regardless how they came in, with or without documents. The US Catholic Charities has helped thousands upon thousands of US citizen children bring their parents to legal status in the US.  And Catholic Charities does it for free, all they have to pay is their Immigration fees.

Of course a child can petition a parent.  But a petition confers no legal status at all.

"The US immigration process requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and a significant amount of money.  It is quite a journey!"

What I never understand in these situations is that you could understand the basics pretty quickly if you just did a bit of googling, loads of resources out there.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I read that article yesterday morning.  They focused on what they called a "scam" by the attorney, but I think they totally ignored the original scam.  The guy was an illegal border crosser.  Personally, I don't think he deserves a GC.

Yes. This is what they're grasping on NOW. "Ooooo my parent messed up in the fist place. But let's not focus on that. Let's use this opportunity to claim U-visa."

The lawyer is known. He's not hiding and this case doesn't qualify for a U-visa imho. I hate things like this. "Oooo I hit someone  first, they hit me but let's focus on them hitting me and totally disregard what started this whole fiasco in the first place."

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

This is the original story without the Guardian embellishments.

That reporter was on crutches or was that just a ploy to get to the Frontline of meeting the attorney?

The moment I saw the attorney and realized he's Ghanaian, I knew it was 100% scam. Furthermore, isn't that EAD written "not for travel blaa blaa blaa?" How's the banker son not able to comprehend that?

She has dedication!

I think it was mentioned somewhere that she is a veteran reporter. I was amazed at how many people were lined up, apparently he does not operate via email etc, even answering the phone is pot luck.

I assume his customers go to him because he has the secret hack.

That's what I was wondering too. I'm 100% sure previous customers have called him out on his bluff yet he still has customers, presumably old Hispanics.

I'm now thinking he printed that EAD card from his own printing machine or has someone in Ghana printing and bringing them over.

There's no way someone who calls himself even ⅛ of an attorney would be filing VAWA cases such as "VAWA because client's son hit him."

My impression and I certainly would not put money on this is that the VAWA was file, and that the EAD was produced. After all you can file pretty much anything. Interesting he chose VAWA and not Asylum as his niche.

Could a U Visa be used if they go after the lawyer and need victims to testify?  Regardless there is a bit of a backlog.

No.   U visas are for violent crimes.

As far as I can tell he has not been arrested, I can see maybe a civil case but that may be difficult. I am assuming he has not been stupid and written or said anything incriminating

Do  I think he is a crook absolutely

These are both amusing and infuriating to read.. Especially on Reddit, VAWA is considered as a last resort to get a green card and people seem to have no issues at all to do this. For the people who actually were abused by their US Citizen spouse (It does happen!) this must be so frustrating to see..

The kid is a retail banking associate (teller).  Likely he has “group” legal through the employer (big bank).

I see what the lawyer was doing.

1) file vawa

2) get EAD/AP

3) drop vawa

4) son files i130/485 as dad now has legal entry

It’s entirely possible that this worked for other clients and now others (possibly US citizens) are going to have their status revoked.

I wish the Latino community had real advocates who tell them the 2 or 3 ways an EWI can get a GC.

He might have worked with some DACA applicants which would allow those who don't fully research the process believe filing VAWA is similar to filing DACA. Even our dear @Boiler got it mixed up ;)

I wish the Latino community had real advocates who tell them the 2 or 3 ways an EWI can get a GC.- There are several great non profits working with the Latino community helping them gain status. If you see my previous post one of the reviews mentioned they had been told there was no way to gain status he was promising the impossible.
