Do you want/need to work? If so, apply for the EAD. If not, be prepared to wait for your GC - could be 2 months, could be 2 years....

If you're happy to wait until you get your green card before you start working, then you don't need to apply for an EAD. Just bear in mind that there's no guarantee of how quickly your AOS will be approved (could be a long time...) when making that decision.

I thing, somebody correct me if I am wrong, that you can work when you get your green card.

You only need an EAD if you want to work (and/or get a drivers license depending on what state you are in) while you are waiting for your Green Card to process. Once the GC is approved, you can work. No EAD is needed then.

Most Green Cards come quickly, however some don't and can take years. In this case the EAD (and for that matter, AP) are an insurance policy that allows you to lead a normal life while you are waiting.

The GC replaces any AP/EAD documents you may have received first.
