No. Apple Maps does though.

Can you do Apple Maps on the screen?  I know Tesla does not use CarPlay, so do you have to plug in?  For certain reasons, at least for now, I need to use vehicles from a certain manufacturer, and they are moving to get rid of CarPlay and rely on the Google system.  I prefer Waze, and I am wondering what my option will be then.  I suppose a phone holder from WeatherTech, or something like that.

So if you want to use Apple Maps you either need a phone holder or get the app on the vehicle system (if available)?  Do you have to subscribe through Tesla?  Sorry for the questions, just planning ahead.

There is no Tesla app store.

You might be able use the on board web browser to access Apple Maps. Not on my Tesla, because the web browser on my hardware level is too slow.

On road trips, I  download offline google maps to my phone in case I lose connectivity. For example, CA 1 from Monterrey to Big Sur was a bad dead zone, and might still be. So losing info about locations of super chargers is dangerous. At times I am still forced to use offline google maps on my phone.

You have to pay for a subscription for cell connectivity in new Teslas. On mine, LTE is lifetime.

This seems appropriate as manufacturers tend to include a ton of software in their EVs , and of course many have levels of AV function.

'I was kidnapped by my runaway electric car'

Soon after he made the call, three police vehicles arrived and drove in front and behind the car.

He said: "I was 100% concentrating on my steering, so when a police van pulled up besides me and asked if I was Brian and if I was okay, I just yelled 'no I'm not, I can't stop'."

Police asked Mr Morrison to throw his electronic key through their van window before driving off, and then tried forcibly shutting off the engine - but nothing could stop the car.

He was also asked to hold the power button for a couple of seconds which also failed to stop it and the entire dashboard lit up with faults.

Officers decided to get him to crash into the back of their van before he got into a more built-up area.

I had a reservation for 2 years and was initially excited about an electric truck for under 40k. In that time the price went from 39k to over 50k for the Pro with similar markups for other trims. Then they told us the Pro quantity available was limited because they wanted to sell higher priced trim models. It felt like a bait and switch. Meanwhile complaints about bad quality control were popping up everywhere online, and dealers were still adding markups. The three people from work that originally put in reservations all declined to put in orders once it got to our turns. I'll also mention there is no way to cancel your reservation online because I'm betting Ford didn't want shareholders or the media knowing how bad they messed this up.

Is Tesla still trying to pull back vehicles of you vintage (I seem to remember you saying yours was still of the free access variety)?

Tesla uses drain valves in their battery pack enclosures to allow for coolant to drain out if there is an internal leak.  What is interesting is these valves use a cardboard/paper type material that will expand when wet and open the valves allowing the draining, and after the material dries the valves should close.  The issue is, and most likely what happened here is enough external water/splash exposed this expanding cardboard paper and the valves cracked open and allowed the water in the pack from the outside.  To me this is clearly a Tesla design issue, but they don't seem to agree.

Tesla Owner Reports Shocking $21,000 Bill For Battery Damaged By Rain

As covered by Edinburgh Live, the couple had driven the vehicle during recent torrential rains in the Scottish capital. Having driven the Model 3 to a restaurant for dinner, the car would not run when the couple went to drive home. The car was picked up after a five-hour wait for roadside assistance, and taken to Tesla Edinburgh for repair. After a few days, the couple was contacted and advised that the battery was damaged due to water ingress. That came with an astonishing bill of £17,374 ($21,166 USD) that would not be covered under the car's eight-year warranty.

The car's owners, Johnny Bacigalupo and Rob Hussey, told Edinburgh Live that they were shocked by the figure, and pressed Tesla as to how the problem occurred. Bacigalupo says they were told that the battery had effectively been submerged in water.

Insurance companies starting to catch up?

Insurance Costs Could Cripple European Electric Car Sales

The British media is awash with horror stories about the latest insurance premiums. One Tesla Model Y owner was shocked to be asked to pay £5,000 ($6,000) for annual insurance, up from £1,000 ($1,200) the previous year.

Some insurers are getting nervous about the possible scale of liabilities. John Lewis Financial Services has paused insuring electric vehicles while its underwriter analyses risks and costs.

The cost of replacing batteries is causing insurance companies much angst. Batteries are usually mounted underneath the passenger compartment and cover a huge area. This makes them more vulnerable to damage, and their sensitivity adds to the problem. What would be a minor shunt for an internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicle can be catastrophic for an electric one.
