Sounds super.  Did you see many EVs during your travels?

Quite a few in China (Shanghai, Suzhou, and Jiaxing, not as many in Korea and Singapore.

Since its release, Tesla's Cybertruck has generated much discussion due to its daring design and robust build quality.  However, now that it's actually on the road, the reality is turning out to be far less amazing than the anticipation.  [...]

My wife and I saw one driving along the freeway this past weekend.  It really looks like something some metal worker put together in his garage.

I gave my spouse my Tesla model 3 and since I can't live without a Tesla now (and gas stations and adding gas feels disgusting now) , I got a new one (2024 Telsa model 3) for myself.  It is much roomier, quieter, and incredibly smoother than my previous one.

However, the biggest surprise is that I got FSD (full self-driving)  due to getting a promo for only $1K, It is now out of Beta (in Supervised now).  I had always thought the FSD was going to be a sham. But wow, it is amazing how well it works.  Its nearly perfect even in complex city traffic. It handled all the complex city driving traffic cases, rotaries, obstacles in the road, etc. That said there are rare issues that you need to take over, but otherwise it works shockingly well. Admittedly, probably not as well when the snow comes. Take one for a test drive to see for yourself.

On my road trip to Canada I only had to stop once from Boston to charge at a supercharger.  My only complaint was that it charged too fast as I wasn't done eating at the adjacent restaurant and had to rush back to disconnect it to avoid idle fees.

If anyone wants a code to get $1,000 off a new Tesla, I have a few left. Just message me.

So Tesla's seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper, second hand prices make them affordable and lets face it a lot of the Legacy Manufacturers no longer make regular cars, Ford anyone.

I assume the deal you recently got was much better than the first time?

Yes, it was a better deal. I got more for less money including FSD and a premium color choice.  Plus I got $14.5K in Federal, State, and local EV incentives and rebates by adding daughter to the title since they are income limited (extremely common). Plus $10/month by letting the electric company limit the charging during peak usage events (max 4/times per month).

biggest savings is the gas and maintanence

Nice car.  I saw a lot of Tesla's in the Shanghai area with a lot of interesting colors that I have not seen here.  I really have no issues with Tesla, but from a styling standpoint, only the Model S appeals to me (I really don't like the front end of the 3).  My biggest concern with Tesla is the lack of styling changes they have made over the years.  The 3, Y, X and S really haven't changed much externally since they were launched, and other than the CT, there doesn't appear to be much from Tesla for the future.  Sure Tesla is trying to market themselves as a software company, but many people do not buy cars due to software (sure I know you can make those fart noises with Teslas, but people will tire of that just like novelty ringtones), and Tesla is in fact a car company.  We will see how things shake out, but I definitely saw a lot of competition of Tesla in China, and those vehicles along with others are coming here eventually.  I had one more question, do you get the tax break every time you buy an electric car, or is it a one and done thing?

Scientists make major discovery while working with scrap EV batteries: 'The need for developing sustainable recycling methods is pressing'

When Rice University professor James Tour and his team quickly heated spent lithium-ion batteries to over 4,040 degrees Fahrenheit, some astounding things happened.

By flash-heating the power packs in a matter of seconds, the waste formed magnetic shells and stable core structures.  It is part of an exciting technique being developed to recycle expensive battery parts, according to a university lab report.

If successful, it could be a better method of reclaiming the valuable materials without hazardous chemical solvents and power-hungry processes.  And the results could lead to cleaner batteries and electric vehicles, per the research team.  [...]

I wonder if those interesting colors were wrapped cars. Wrapping seems to be very popular especially for those that don't like the "free" color.

It seems to me that most cars over the years have lost their styling, and give you the "wow" factor.

I don't feel that Tesla is trying to push themselves as a SW company.  But maybe that is because I know several electrical engineers that went there, and know that they only hire the very best and push them very hard to do very high quality and detailed engineering work. Yeah, there is even a new "megaphone" feature where you can "yell" at someone from inside the car (if parked) and a lot of games and silly stuff. Its just a novelty. Maybe the engineers had some free time, lol?  But the "light show" is actually nice, I tried it out of curiosity one night, and out of the woods near my house I heard several kids scream "nice light show".

For myself, I choose Telsa for their reliability and the super charging network.  Lets see how it plays out as non-Teslas get access to the network.

For the incentives, it depends on which ones, but there is a limit of something like 2 per year to prevent fraud.
