The Biden administration is pushing -- hard -- for electric vehicles.  Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says it's happening with or without us (LOL, okay, Skippy).  There are problems with EVs -- from lack of charging stations, to limited resources, to manufacturers and unions opposing EVs -- that cannot be ignored because the government mandates we go all electric.

Sounds like the USCG thinks the fire is now out.  Funny thing though, battery fires often times re-ignite,

NPR briefly covered this, said it was down to low customer demand and high repair costs. I think they were referring to accidents. These are very high performance vehicles.

I put my non EV car on charge yesterday as I have not driven it for a while, I think I really need to replace the battery, and it is cooooold.

 

That photo looks like a Tesla Supercharger, now I do not know how much juice a Tesla heating system can take but even if it is 2KW that is tiny compared to the amount of juice those produce.

 

I do remember being told that the battery needs to be conditioned in cold weather to take a full charge but that can be done whilst driving to the charging station.

 

Now a lot of the schools are not open today or on delayed starts, one of the problems is that they use Diesel buses and they do not want to start in the cold weather. I have thought of getting an engine block heater. Not sure why School Buses do not have them here.

 

Anyway we will be up to 38f as a high tomorrow so some melt.

 

Looks like I will not be going anywhere for awhile, Hwy closed due to blowing snow.

I had one when I was living in North Dakota....worked great.  At one time I also had an engine heater which tied in between the radiator and block.   It circulated warm water through the entire cooling system which meant the heater air was instantly warm.

I still vividly remember how, in Iowa, I'd spend an hour-plus shoveling my parents' driveway, and then the plow would come by and shove everything from the street back on the lower third of the driveway.  

 

I concluded then, as a quality decision, that there's no need whatsoever to stay in the Midwest and be cold.  Or to see even one more snowflake.

 

These people who own EVs and expect them to function rapidly or optimally are probably having second thoughts.
