I know someone who ran his diesel using used oil from Restaurants years ago.

 

The new Bugatti is technically a PHEV, now if this does not save the planet what will? Just using electric it has 800 bhp.

German EV demand stalls as consumers reject green tech

 

A prevailing view is that transitioning away from fossil fuels is inevitable, though not imminent. But as consumers reject new green technologies, even that supposed inevitability is coming into question. Earlier this week it was reported that the German luxury car-maker Porsche is scaling back its ambitious sales targets for electric vehicles due to reduced demand, with the company stating that “the transition to electric vehicles will take longer than we assumed.” The original goal of making battery-only cars 80% of the manufacturer’s sales by 2030 is no longer realistic, and Porsche is joined by Mercedes-Benz after the latter recorded “a 25% drop-off in sales of fully electric cars”.

 

The retreat from electric vehicles is not limited to Germany. In the United States, General Motors has announced, also this week, that it will delay the development of new EV models and postpone the opening of an electric truck factory, while Ford Motor replaced plans for a factory that was designed to build electric SUVs with plans to build combustion engine pickup trucks. And there are good reasons for this. As the energy writer Robert Bryce has calculated, Ford “sold 23,957 EVs during the quarter, but it lost USD 1.14 billion while doing so. Thus, Ford lost $47,585 for each EV it sold.”

Maryland County’s Electric School Bus Program Resulted in Millions of Dollars in ‘Wasteful Spending’

 

“All of the buses received during fiscal years (FY) 2022-2024 were delivered beyond the contractually required delivery date,” the OIG report stated. As a result, the school system spent “over $14 million to acquire diesel buses to compensate for not receiving the anticipated electric school buses.”

 

In addition to the delays, many of the electric buses have been “inoperable for extended periods,” with the inspector general estimating that “MCPS should have assessed the [electric bus] contractor approximately $372,000 for failing to provide serviceable buses between FYs 2022 and 2024.”

The Trials and Tribulations of Traveling 500 Miles in an EV in One Day

Thanks to Julie Myhre-Nunes of Nerdwallet, I now understand why so many people are opposed to buying them.  She drove a Chevy Volt from San Jose to Las Vegas, a 500-mile trip.  Google Maps says the trip should take about 8 hours.  Ms. Myhre-Nunes's trip took 11.5 hours.  (More about that below.)

There may be a lot of people on the fence about purchasing an EV but I'm not one of them.  I would love to get one if they can ever match a gas-powered car in performance, range, and style (the Tesla is pretty snazzy). But the timeline looks to be about 10 years before they can solve some of the most pressing problems with EVs that make driving one an exercise in blood pressure control.

This does not make any sense.  The Chevy Volt is a range extending hybrid with a fuel tank, and the range on only battery is about 50 miles.  That being said, driving long distances in an EV is a joke even if you are in a Tesla.  My wife and I are heading to Utah in a few weeks, no way I would try it in an EV.  We regularly drive 1000-1500 miles a day.

It was interesting.  Every place I went, China, Korea, and Singapore wanted to discuss the U.S. Presidential election.  Those in China seem to favor KK, but Korea and Singapore were more in line with Trump.  I was surprised at how much the Singaporeans I met see the shift in the American political parties.  One of my colleagues mentioned that it seems the Democrats are all about the rich elite now.  We did have a nice time in Korea, my wife flew over and joined me for the weekend, and for some shopping of Korea skin care products.  We had a nice weekend visiting friends, and hiking around Seoul.
