I searched "Alien number" in the box and came up with a bunch of hits. But it seems like on every thread, someone says something different. Case in point, some people say the A number can be located:

1. Written on the back of the I-94

2. Pre-printed on the front of the I-94

3. Printed in red lettering on the Visa

4. On the NOA2.

On my husband's passport and visa, none of these numbers coincide! On the back of his I-94, there is an 8 digit number hand written. There is also a 9 digit number preprinted on front of !-94. And lastly, the red digits on his visa: another 8 digit number! I don't have our NOA2, so I can't compare them ...

Can someone help me out on this?? :help:

Let me repeat: I'd like to know HOW MANY DIGITS the A number had and I DO NOT HAVE MY NOA1 or 2 to compare what is on the visa and I-94. Sorry if that somehow wasn't clear in my first post. Or subject heading.

How many digits do you have? EDIT: OK I've read your original post. Does the 9 digit one start with a "0"?

I think the answer to the OP's original question is:

9 digits, but if the first digit is a "0" (zero) then its often left off, so it would be A followed by 8 digits in that case.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm popping this AOS Mf'er in the mail tomorrow and the stress is kinda getting to me. There is an 8 digit number written on the back of the I-194, following a very sloppy letter (which actually resembles an H) but I'm betting is an 'A'.

Thank you all again. The count-down to the AOS is about to begin. I'm nervous.

The A# on the visa wasn't the same I had on my NOA2...when I filed AOS I used the one printed on my visa, yes, the one in red.

But that's an entirely different number... that's the visa number, not the alien registration number.

Under the annotations section of the K1 visa, my husband's A number is listed - in black type, NOT red.

Oppps, I am sorry, of course you are right, the A# on the visa is in black!!! Still, that was the one I used for the AOS application and yes, it was different from the A# on the NOA2.

Confused me first too but then someone on VJ told me, that this is common.
