Hi everyone,

I have  case (CR1) that was document qualified  by NVC at the beginning of January 2023, as today  the status is still at NVC. Does anybody know approximately how long it will take for the case to be move to the US embassy in Panama city, Panama? I read online that usually it takes about 3 months to be move to the local US embassy. Last month I sent a request to NVC using their public inquiry form and they said they will schedule the interview when an appointment  date is available.  Is there a way/options to expedite it? if yes, is it safe to do it? I mean if I send a request to expedite the process will hurt the case more than helping.

Thank you very much for your help.

You can't expedite without a good reason.  NVC will schedule the interview when your case reaches the front of the queue.

1. Case is DQ'd by NVC.

2. Case then enters NVC queue for your consulate and waits at NVC.

3. Consulate informs NVC of available interview date for upcoming month.

4. NVC schedules interview when case reaches the front of the queue for that consulate.

5. NVC notifies person of interview date via email.

6. NVC then sends case to consulate.

After the interview is scheduled, it can take several days to several weeks for the consulate to receive the case.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

As above, your case won’t be transferred to the consulate until you have received an interview date - I got my IL on Saturday and 5 days later the status changed to ‘in transit’.

How long the IL takes will depend on the backlog at your consulate, some have only a wait of a few weeks, others have 2 years from DQ date to interview. I’m afraid I have no idea about Panama City but it might be worth searching the forums to see if you can get an idea of how long it’s taking at the moment.

Good luck.
