SFO Phil Consulate changed my name/ passport renewal

I finally renewed my passport. I presented my documents including my id, greencard and expired passport. On my driver’s license, I do not have my middle name because I decided to make my name short and simple, first and last name only. But I was told that at the Philippine convention(?), I am married so I should use my maiden name as my middle name. So the lady put my maiden name on my middle name on my application for passport renewal application. This new passport will be my first official document with my first, middle and last name. 

 

My question is will I have a problem in the future once I go to Phils and go back to US thru the immigration officer because some of my id’s have no middle name while my new passport has first, middle and last name. If so, what can I do about it to prevent future problems? Has any filipina here had the same problem? What did you do about it?

It should not matter.

 

But if you want "extra insurance" to avoid "future problems",  you might consider applying for Global Entry.

GE will document your passport, id and green card, and you show up for an in-person interview to verify all those are you so that your documents and names are verified prior to the Port Of Entry immigration entry and the GE line is usually faster than the regular immigration line.

In the Philippines it's most simple just following their naming convention.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your GE experience. Really helps a lot with my situation. Yes, I need assurance because I just has a baby late last year and would want to be very safely assured. 
 

But.. why did you say it should not matter.. have you known anyone with a similar situation that has travelled internationally and had no issues without GE?

The only IDs that matter when you travel internationally are your PH passport and your US GC.  If your GC lists your maiden name, bring your marriage certificate when you travel, in case there's any question about the different names.  If your GC already lists your married name but without middle name, it doesn't matter that your PH passport lists your middle name.

Thank you very much!! That makes so much sense. By chance, do you know anyone who had the same situation I do? How was their experience at the port of entry with the immigration officer? I am really worried on that part

Did you file your US marriage certificate name for your green card and passport (and driver's license REAL ID)?

Did you file a Philippines Report Of Marriage with the US marriage certificate name, and used the ROM for the passport update?

 

My filipina spouse used the married naming convention on the marriage certificate of first name, middle name (maiden last name), and last name (spouse's last name).

We filed a Philippines Report Of Marriage using the same naming convention as the US marriage certificate, and I believe she is using the Philippines ROM to update her Philippines passport.

As long as you continue to file using your marriage certificate name consistently, name format shouldn't matter like the green card only shows the middle initial and the driver's license only shows the first and last name, etc.

While not directly applicable to Immigration, Social Security quite specifically does not care about middle names so that at least gives you some idea about the US Government's general attitude towards middle names.

Also, for the sake of argument there is no "Middle Name" field on a US Passport or US Green Card, while there IS a separate "Middle Name" field on a Philippine Passport.  So, I suspect that the "Surname" and "Given Name" fields on your Philippine Passport and your US Document are identical but the Philippine Passport just carries an additional field of information that does not have an exact equivalent in the US.

We are in the Philippines now. My wife is traveling with the same set of documents. She did it April 2022 as well with no issues.

Right. It’s just an additional name, I mean the middle/ maiden name for the sake of Philippine naming convention. I still have the same name. Thank you for the explanation on this, that makes so much sense to me
