Required to have the beneficiary's passport photo? Burdensome

Hello all,

 

I was wondering if USCIS would allow if I made a statement about the burden that it would be to obtain a passport photo of my fiance? First of all, in Peru it is very hard to get the specifications correct, secondly, to send mail from Peru to the US often costs around $100 because the post is privatized (unless you use the national mail service which will not guarantee receipt) and it also takes roughly two months even with a private service. Any input would be appreciated! Thank you.

Take a photo with the phone, with a white background and use the photo tool (https://tsg.phototool.state.gov/photo) to adjust the picture

Your statement will not prevent an RFE.  Scanning, emailing and reprinting is perfectly acceptable.  There is no need to physically mail.

and the needed passport photos are required at the embassy interview /1 of  the actual passport photos is attached to the visa

She can take a picture where she is, either herself or at a photo place (I took it at a local photo place), send it to you digitally and you can print it out at CVS or Walgreens. That’s how everyone does it

If you file the I-130 online, you upload the passport style photos.  There is no need to submit a physical passport photo.

Like they suggested have her scan the photos, also there are a lot of internet cafes and photo labs in Peru, in fact a lot of internet cafes or all hotels offer internet services. Ty. BG

p.s. there are so many photo labs in Peru as well.

Curious, they used to attach the actual photo to the visa? My visa photo is B/W and is printed.

Not that it’s important, but mine and my spouse’s IV photograph is definitely not laminated, or raised in any way, it appears to just be printed along with the rest of the visa.

 

I have an old NIV from the 90s, that photo is definitely laminated, but I didn’t realize that persisted even until recently.

If this is for a spouse and the spouse is overseas no need to upload the photos according to the I-130 instructions.

"You must submit two identical color passport-style photographs of yourself and your spouse (if he or she is in the United States) taken within 30 days of filing this petition"

But, passport photo will be required at NVC stage.

My wife actually got a new passport photo done in Peru since that's where we happened to be on vacation together when her I-130 was approved and we were preparing embassy paperwork.  It was very easy.  I think we paid 20 Sol to a passport photo photographer in a mall to take the picture and give us five 2"x2" prints plus he sent the .jpg copy to my wifes WhatsApp.  By default he wanted to do European size photos and we had no luck explaining 2"X2" but he finally figured out "Americano" size photos.  Someone suggested later that we should have just asked for 50mmX50mm but in any case we worked out the size issue.  Back here I tiled the digital photo six each on 4"x6" prints uploaded to Walmart and now we have a lifetime supply of expired passport photos for like $1.50.
