Anyone have any experience with this, with the 1 year extension letter? We used it for traveling to Scotland and back, and it went smoothly.

I'm wondering for crossing the border. A few years back we went and my husband had to go in this building and fill out some paperwork or get his passport stamped (I don't remember). But now that he is a permanent resident what should we expect? Will they just look at his expired greencard and the extension letter and wave us through (both ways), like they did at the airport?

Thanks!

That is not a problem, I travel back and forth to Canada, the POE officer on the US side will need to see the expired green-card, and extension letter. And entry to Canada shoul be no problem either, they recognize the I-551 green-card and extension letter, as well as they have a visa waiver program with Scotland (UK), so you will be welcomed to visit either way.

US Citizens will need a passport to re-enter the country by land, staring sometime the middle of next year.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

My father died last month, I had to travel to Mexico as an emergency. We crossed the border by car.

I did not have a stamp in my passport, all I handed them was the expired card and the extention letter.

I had no problems to come back.

So you never had to get out of the car or go in another building?

Sounds good!

Thanks..
