What's "your" song?

After reading Corissa's post (very sweet!), it got me thinking -- what's our song? Overall, it has to be "City of New Orleans" by Arlo Guthrie. We were driving down Route 1 together, it was January 2006 and it was Bruce's first visit to America. It was cold and snowy, and we were on our way to Daddy's Junky Music so he could mess about with guitars. (Again.) We were totally gaga for each other but hadn't gotten the nerve up to say "I Love You" yet.

We were almost at the shop, when the song came on the radio. I said, "Ooooh, I love this song! I haven't heard it in years!" and we both got very quiet. By the second verse I was in floods of tears -- I suddenly realised how much I loved America in spite of myself, and how much I wanted to be home at last. But there would be no moving without Bruce. I felt an awful longing and so overwhelmed with love -- for Bruce, for home -- that I started bawling. I was in love! But how could I love him and come home without him?

When the song finished, Bruce said quietly, "That was one of the greatest, most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Why are you crying?" I said I was just being silly, it reminded me of being a little girl. He said the song seemed to be calling out to him, speaking to his soul, saying he had at last found a home. From these seeds a plan, a crazy and wonderful plan, emerged. We were in love, and we were going to get back to America by hook or by crook. Bruce learned to play it on the guitar and whenever he sings it, I am back in that car, bundled up in scarves and gloves, crying because I realised I was in love and that despite years of protestations, I really loved my home.

So....what's everyone's "song"?

(My song while I was waiting for Packet 4 to arrive had to be Tom Petty's "The Waiting" -- couldn't get the chorus out of my head! )

^^^ What a sweet story!! :)

We have loads! We can't actually decide on 'our' song though... Here by me, 3 doors down makes both of us tearful when we listen to it... Chris called me the other day and he said that it came on the radio while he was at work and he had to walk away cos it made him well up.

He always thinks of me when 'save me' by Shinedown comes on the radio... Not really an appropriate song ( But when I was there last winter, it had just been released and I played it to death!

Also, we both listen to Live this life by Big and Rich alot... That reminds me of the time we spent together last summer....

And at the moment, I tend to listen to 'Patience' by Guns 'n' Roses an awful lot.

Ugh, there are soooo many!

It is not "our song" but the one which keeps coming on the radio at the moment is Take That's "Patience".

I know, I know, I know. I have done patience, can we move on now. LOL

Aww this post is really sweet. I have to laugh, we don't really have a song, my hubby is a metal head and I love punk...if I could pick one song to describe our relationship though it would be something dorky like When I Fall in Love by Nat King Cole - though my hubby (who is over my shoulder said) "I think it should be fat bottom girls" He's going to have a dead arm once I post this :P

Wow, I was just thinking about posting the same sort of question last night. Weird.

Our song is "Follow Through" by Gavin Degraw. When Rich first came to visit we went to the mountains and it was the only CD in my car and we listened to it all weekend. It is so appropriate, because my moving to England for the last year was a big risk and I was scared to death, but he was counting on me to follow through and thank God I did. He also followed through on his part of the deal, which was, if I come to England and it all goes smooth and works fabulously, then we move permanently back to Colorado.

If you haven't heard this song, listen to it, its great. It's going to be our first dance!

Chopping Broccoli by Dana Carvey from the SNL skit.

Whenever I bring out the broccoli- Mel gets on the piano and sings it for me.

LOL!!!

We have two songs: the "I'm A Giraffe" song from the "Zoo Animals On Wheels" episode of "Get A Life."

The other is that Darkness song: "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" but I call it the "Sing like a Girl" song, because I can never remember the lyrics, and I sing "Here's the part where I sing like a girl!"

Touching you, touching me

touching you, god you're touching me

I believe in a thing called love

Here's the part where I sing like a girl

"Ballad Of Tom Jones" by Space

It is by far the most absurd song I have heard, lyrics are brilliant, the video sells it.

I HAVE to sing the Cerys Matthews bits in a Welsh accent. Without fail, every time! Love that song too, btw.
