If Dumbledore had the Elder Wand all along - that battle with Voldemort in Book 5 should have been a sure thing...

Didn't it not have its full power for Dumbledore since he didn't kill his friend in the duel (sorry drawing a blank on the name...

He defeated him in the duel - he didn't have to kill him. Otherwise Harry would have had to kill Malfoy to gain control of the Elder Wand.

You're right. I hope someone has an explanation then...

Well - its not that big of a continuity error ;)

I wish Dobby and Hedwig hadn't died. Dobby's death was the most unexpected and distressing of all. I was also upset that we never found out what became of Kreacher's steak and kidney pie.

I agree with the comments re the tent and Harry making stupid decisions. That part just dragged on. It seems that JK Rowling has the Hogwart's setting down cold, but really wasn't certain how to deal with the characters when they couldn't be there.

The use of the word 'bi*ch' was very grating to me. It didn't fit in the book - even taking into account the context.

The book was fine, the ending was fine, but nothing spectacular.
