Please house, am from Nigeria and my husband is an American. We want to file for form i-130 and form i-130a online, but we don't know if it's best to do it ourselves or is it better to employ the services of an attorney? I would really appreciate if I get feedbacks.

Thank you.

It is better if the USC spouse is posting the question.  Best if both parties are involved.

It depends on how detail oriented you are and how patiently and thoroughly you read all instructions and guides.

It is not complex, but it requires a good understanding of the visa process and being able to accurately and completely fill out forms.

My husband and I did all the processes ourselves. It also depends on your situation though.

Good luck

read thru the 130 instructions before u proceed to fill out the form

the following site is the form itself,  u can print it out ,  fill it out by hand and have it in front of u while doing it online

keep a copy for your records as u will fill out dates and information that u may need to refer to later in the process

https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-130.pdf

and do not make the mistake many make by filling out 60b and 61a and 61 b/that would be a costly mistake (over $500 to correct)

those questions are for immigrants already in the US /u will interview in Nigeria not in a US office

Hiring a lawyer or a visa service is a personal decision.  Simple cases are very easy to do it yourself.  I would suggest having your husband join VJ as the ball will be in his court at this point.

Good Luck!

Please download the instructions that accompany the forms, from USCIS.gov.   Also read the guides here on VJ.   If you’re going to DIY it, you need to become educated about the process.

also-  you’re the beneficiary, correct?   The petitioner needs to be involved and to own this process.

In my experience attorneys are a waste of money if your case is simple and don’t have a lot of red flags.

My advice is really all the guidelines here and on the USCIS website and in case of doubts, ask to us.

You should read the thread about the two marriage certificates.  That was a simple case too.  Visajourney has a partner page for a reason.  https://www.visajourney.com/partners/
