The military piece is a document that is now required proving the man has either served or been delayed or dismissed. Egyptian men up to the age of 3o are REQUIRED to serve a minimum of ONE year up to THREE years in the military. The only exceptions are in the event of illness, or if they are the ONLY son...(not sure but maybe OLDEST sons to since they are ultimately responsible for mom and dad and family)

Some men are fortunate enough to bypass this. During the selection process a computer determines the military needs and current level of those drafted. Such as the case with my SO....they did NOT take anyone in his birth year OR from his education degree. He is DELAYED..meaning he has to refile each year...but can gain permission to travel.

If your man has been DELAYED...he WILL need to go get permission from the military to travel. If he is DISMISSED he will not have to server EVER..and if he did his service...well..he's done. This paper is needed to show that he is not required to serve in the military...but remember he WILL need to go get permission to travel and I think that is granted once he gets his visa...i will check on that. (which takes about a day)

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. My fiance is the only son. Interestingly enough my fiance told me that while he is exempt from service (we are both 23) he would not be exempt from a draft if Egypt were to go to war and therefore still needs permission to travel. Has anyone ever heard of the delay in military service until HIS father turns 55 to "ensure" no more sons will be born? My fiance had to be in Egypt from when he turned 18 until his dad turned 55 which is when his exemption became permanent.

He said he may not have to go since his father was 60 and retired...but i never understood why since he is NOT the only son...but the youngest of two sons. My recollection of how it was explained to me could be fuzzy, my fiance's father was the one who explained the age-over-55 thing to me about 5 years ago so I could very well have it wrong.

thanks everyone...guess that is why my SO was in the military...ok so he will need papers to prove he has done this..ok..i wil add this to the growing list..................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK and try to keep my head wrapped around all of this..hahahahahahahahaha

I'm so glad my fiance has to deal w/ this paperwork now. I'm "free" to plan our wedding, remodel the basement, get ready for a yardsale, and figure out what's next in the paperwork process once he gets here! It's like....I can't think about this stuff anymore. hahhaa

Yes I hear you and I am not even trying or attempting to try to find out what I have to do once he is here.hhahaaa..for me I dont care what I have to do, as long as he is here, I will do whatever is needed...and resend 5, 000, 000 forms of whatever...my man will be w/me and thats all I care about......but seriously I had to limit myself because I was getting so crazed by it all...I told myself, ok one step at a time...lets concentrate on getting him here and then go from there...so that is what I am doing..however head still spins from time to time..ok who am I kidding its spinning all the time...however, I found this place to be a great support....

YES. Once he's here everything else will be so much easier, unlike right now where if I get confused about something and need an answer from him, it could be a day or two before I get the answer so in the meantime I go nuts!
