hello ladies,

do you have any experience using ortho tri cyclen low to avoid having a period???

I never used that particular one, but I took my usual one (Loestrin) continuously to avoid my period. You can actually do it with any monophasic pills. (Not tri-phasic where the pills are a different color every week). I checked with my doc first and he said it was fine

Why would someone avoid having their period? I'd never mess up my body like that and have complications in the future. I think it's a terrible idea JMHO

It doesn't mess your body up at all There's actually a few Pills on the market that are designed specifically for that. "Seasonal" lets you have just 4 periods a year - you take the Pills for 3 months straight, then stop for a week to have your period. There's another one (I forget the name) that you take the pills for 24 days straight (instead of the usual 21) and then have a 3 day period and then start a new pack.

I skipped periods for years using my regular Pill (Loestrin) and had NO problems at all. As soon as I went off my Pill my periods returned to normal and I got pregnant 6 months later - planned pregnancy

I think I'll take the pack & the leaflet with all the hormone percentages listed & show it to a doctor (when I find one, that is... I don't even know where you go to get contraception in the US - normal GP type doctor, special family planning place.... tis a mystery, and one I haven't paid nearly enough attention to solving!),

Often, you can get the Pill from a regular doctor (GP) or you can go to an OB/GYN. You'll probably need one anyways, so why not start with them? Another alternative (especially if you don't have health insurance yet) is a family planning clinic such as Planned Parenthood. Look online for locations near you.

There are 2 ways the pills work. One of them (the way my pills work) is that the constant hormones in the blood tells your brain you are pregnant. So you stop ovulating, and then your body doesnt fill your uterus with the endometrium. The period itself is only the release of the thick unused endometrium each month, which builds up during ovulation to prepare for a possible pregnancy. So if your body thinks you are pregnant, its not gonna happen, so no period. It is wrong to think that the uterus is filled up with that endometrium and if you dont have a period then you are "full". The uterus is actually empty until to lower the dosage with low pills or no pills and there is nothing to evacuate. I agree to say that if you think you mess your body up by not having the monthly period, you shouldnt take the pills at all because it is in fact messing with your natural cycle.

Anyhow, I've heard of a new pill called Seasonale (?) that you take for 3 months straight without a period. Anyone tried this?

I haven't tried that particular one, but I did the same thing with the Pill I was on. After the 21 Pills were gone, instead of taking the 7 days of Placebos, I just started a new pack.

If you're not scared of being pregnant, you really shouldn't be scared of the pill.

I'm scared of being pregnant Especially the labor and delivery part of it! This is my first.

i hardly have a period at all anymore using loestrin. i might get a spot of blood but hardly anything more then that. going from heavy flow to hardly nothing at all is a God send.
