We were just confused as to whether you were saying 'don't take the pill because it messes with your body's natural cycle' or 'don't take the pill CONTINUOUSLY because then you won't have a period.' If you're okay with the pill generally, you should be okay with skipping the bleeding week.

But the pill's been studied like crazy and has been on the market for what, 40 years? It doesn't work for every woman but it's safe and it's been studied like crazy.

In Brazil I used to take a pill designed for that. It had 28 pills in each package, and it was made to be taken continously, without pause between packages. I'd take it for 6 months straight, pause a week to have a period, and re-start again. Since I've been here I can't find that pill so I am back to a regular pill, and hating every period.

Yepp, I think we all know that taking the pill is not the healthiest thing to do to your body. I guess it's another thing we just do for convenience.

Which makes me wonder..has anyone tried to naturally "birth control", like taking temperature and such?

Mephys.... THANK YOU!! Assuming Marvelon is exactly the same in the UK and Canada (I'd assume so, but I'm going to research this now to make sure...) you've just solved that minor 'problem' for me - now I know which pill I need to take here!

Becareful with that, your period is a natural cycle and it happens for reasons. If you stop it without like a hysterectomy or another procedure by your dr you can really mess your body up.

But again, when you're on the pill, you don't HAVE any periods, and it is anything but a natural cycle!

Or do you mean 'be careful with that' as in 'be careful with taking the pill'?

i mean lots of ppl try to stop their periods with pills bc they dont want them anymore, there are pills out there to stop your period but its not a forever stoping. im saying its not safe IMHO bc woman have periods for a reason and you dont want to stop it in that way.

But if you're taking the pill... you're ALREADY stopping your periods - all of them!

Gaaahhh... this thread is just reminding me that my supply of pills from the UK will be running out pretty soon (well, I think I have 2 or 3 packs left)... I still have absolutely no idea about this stuff in the US, and will no doubt have to change to a totally different pill. Not looking forward to that!

i know LOL thats my point its not safe or healthy

Who or what has told you that it isn't safe or healthy? It is one of the longest studied types of drugs.

to stop your period is not healthy, what part of "your period is a natural cycle" am i not getting clear? if you dont need to stop your period (IE hysterectomy) then dont. The pills do stop it to some point, im not saying "stay away from the pill bc you wont have a period". thats something you cant help when on the pill, all i did was make a simple statement about IN GENERAL pills and stopping your period. If your reading something else in my statements thats not my fault

I'm sorry - I am not understanding. You seem to me to be saying two contradictory things. One, that not having a real period is unhealthy. Two, that it's not unhealthy to take the pill even though it stops real periods. Or are you saying that women shouldn't attempt to permanently stop their period by taking pills all their life until menopause?

I was on low-dose pills before I moved to Italy for a few years. Over there, I was told there was nothing equivalent and they put me on the lowest dose available, but supposedly it was higher than what I was used to. I had no problems adjusting to the higher dose. However, when I came back to the U.S. and went back on the lower dose, there were a couple times when I just missed my period entirely. I don't know my experience is typical.

thank you for the imput, my understanding is in italy you can just buy the pills at the pharmacy, I know in morocco you can walk in to any pharmacy they will sell them to you no problems

It basically amounts to 'never have sex.' With perfect use, it's almost as good as the pill (not better than like church family planning lied), but the things is, *typical* use for natural family planning is only about 80% effective. Since you have a 75% chance of not getting pregnant just using nothing at all...

Sure twin sista!! Twin in the AOS, twin in the pill!

Marvelon is made by Organon, and I think there is a high chance that its under the same name in the UK and Canada. US often uses other names to be different than the countries ruled by the Mother queen

Look up their site they call it Marvelon/ Desogen

Its been launched in 1981 and its available in 85 countries, so I think its safe to say they have a lot of documentation on it.

Yes, that's true for the most part. I think technically you are supposed to have a prescription in Italy, but most pharmacists are pretty lax. It made things so much easier!

I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if it was already mentioned. If it was, I'm sorry :) Anyhow, I've heard of a new pill called Seasonale (?) that you take for 3 months straight without a period. Anyone tried this?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

When I first came to the States I did a google search to find out the equivalent of UK pill - couldn't find exactly the same one but found one with almost the same dosage of hormones. I took a print out to my new US doctor along with a package of the UK pills and he was happy to prescribe it to me.

Recently I changed to Jolessa (which seems to be the same as Seasonale which is designed to be taken continuously for three months before you get your period) as I've always had problems with migraines the first day of my period and would rather have four a year rather than twelve... The info which came with the pack said I might experience breakthrough bleeding but I've already taken it for five weeks and no problems so far.

My periods have always given me problems so I'm very happy  to medicate rather than have to deal with my natural cycles. I don;t think 'natural' is always a good thing.
