I'm not allowed any sort of Birth Control Pill whatsoever, whether to stop my period, regulate it, or not. I could have tried some sort of Hormone Progesterone only then future biopsys. *UGH*..... Painful, irregular periods for the past 10 years, consulted with an Obgyn, both us came to same decision, that given my age and family history, i will be period free however after august 15th :( (Hysterectomy) is my only option. :(:(

I had a hysterectomy just 3 months ago. it is a sad thing to have to do. I went thru depression over it and even didnt want to do it. But pls believe me if your dr says it needs to be done then trust your dr. i had endometriosis real bad and she adv i have it done. when i did, they did a biop on my uterus and there were traces of uter cancer. Its a sad, and if its your only option, it means it is the right option. I went thru 10 yrs of pain, cysts and many weeks in the hospital, since ive had the hysterectomy, i have never felt better. im painfree, i have more energy, i feel healthier, and being on the estrogen has made a big difference in my life as well. im 31 yrs old in case you wanted to know.

if you need anyone to talk to, you can PM me, i just went thru this and i hope i can be of help and comfort. (F)

Sorry to hear that, MariaDane, and sorry you had to go through that, too, Ionescu. Sounds like you feel a million per cent better for it, though. (F)

After a D&C, my periods are twice as strong as they used to be, I wouldn't mind to avoid having those! Though, I don't think I'd really try those new pills, not without knowing about the long term sideeffects....

Confirms that having your period on the pill is not "natural". From reading the seems that the only reason the pill was designed so that you do get your period once a month is for reassurance that you're not pregnant, ergo that the pill is working.

That's exactly what I've heard/read/been told by various doctors!

If you're on the pill, you're ALREADY messing with nature and NOT having a real period. Yes, you bleed monthly, but it's a bleed due to hormone withdrawal and isn't the same thing as a regular period.

All I'm saying is that if you're worried about 'natural', the pill already isn't natural. Personally, nature can suck it.

Medical studies have been done that say there's no risk in skipping your 'period', so all that matters is whether taking the hormones continuously works for you. That said, I don't think it works as well if you take ortho-tricyclen-lo continuously because the first week of pills isn't strong enough to keep the breakthrough bleeding from being triggered by the hormone drop. Call your doctor and maybe she can prescribe a change of pill or suggest a course of action.

Becareful with that, your period is a natural cycle and it happens for reasons. If you stop it without like a hysterectomy or another procedure by your dr you can really mess your body up.

when you are on the pill, the hormonal doses you take everyday make your body think you are pregnant and so no egg no real period.. I hope this will clear any misunderstanding you may have

But again, when you're on the pill, you don't HAVE any periods, and it is anything but a natural cycle!

Or do you mean 'be careful with that' as in 'be careful with taking the pill'?

i mean lots of ppl try to stop their periods with pills bc they dont want them anymore, there are pills out there to stop your period but its not a forever stoping. im saying its not safe IMHO bc woman have periods for a reason and you dont want to stop it in that way.

From personal experience, I advise against. I had spotting and couldn't get back on track for a while. However, with a monophasic pill (same level of hormones all 21 days), I find it's a total cinch to skip a "period" without any problems.

(As a general side note, caladan is completely right.)

Gaaahhh... this thread is just reminding me that my supply of pills from the UK will be running out pretty soon (well, I think I have 2 or 3 packs left)... I still have absolutely no idea about this stuff in the US, and will no doubt have to change to a totally different pill. Not looking forward to that!

I'm also not looking forward to having to change next year. The pill I've been using in the UK has worked out perfectly and it's different from the one I used to use in the US. I'm hoping my GP will allow me the full future amount possible before the move. How many months were you able to get?

There's about 60000000 different brands of birth control pills out there. Look at the percentages & types of hormones on your UK pills and there's probably an American equivalent.

I totaly agree with you, the problem is I am going to be with my husband in less that a month, I also have just started taking the pill less than a week ago (sunday after my period) I am pretty sure my gyn will say NO (again same info you have about tri orth cylen low), now if she wants me to take a different kind of pills to avoid the period, that won t be of any help because I need it sooon  and I can t wait till my next cycle to start a new kind of pills.

I guess my problem is these NEW UNTESTED PILLS ... :(

My lovely GP gave me a six month supply even though he knew I was about to leave the country any day... that seemed like tons at the time, but now I actually have to start thinking about sorting out a new pill for when they run out! I wish I'd managed to stockpile a few more packs, now... I've been through a few different brands that REALLY didn't agree with me, and would rather not switch to something that sends me completely psycho (or any of the other utterly un-delightful side effects out there) if I can possibly avoid it!
