Hello! Does anyone know how long it takes to actually receive payment after sending in the questionnaire and EAD? (Already filed and approved back in December)

Thanks!

I would call.  Did you fax or mail?

Hey guys, I have a question.

I'm on EI/CERB which is converting to work-sharing (I got laid off my part-time job and applied for EI and then my full-time job reduced my hours).

My K1 expires in July, I will be leaving my current job end of June and moving in beginning of July.

So what does my employer have to report to EI? That I have quit and then submit the ROE to EI? When does the final payment kick in?

Thanks

You're a little different than normal because you're already on EI.  Most of us apply after moving because we relocated to be with a spouse.  You may not receive any EI and it's possible that your benefits will run out because once you come to the USA you aren't able to work until you get your EAD.  That's a downfall of the K1.  I would get your file transferred to the international branch so you can pay your claims there.  You still have to claim every 2 weeks, but you are not ready willing and able to work.  But get your SSN right away so that you're not waiting for that while waiting for the EAD for 6 months.

I just received confirmation that a decision was made on my claim (I was under review given that my ROE had "quit" as my reason for separation) and was approved.  I had hoped and suspected this would be the case, but it's nice to see it in writing.

I know that I'm not eligible to receive benefits until I receive my EAD, but I'm just wondering if that extends my end date for my claim?  Like if it's 40 weeks of eligibility, and I can't actually claim until, let's say, August, will it be 40 weeks from then?

Is Service Canada going to make it clear to me when my reports are due?  The blurb for the decision says "if you are required to complete reports, visit the Internet Reporting Service to submit your reports" and the actual claims page says "to prevent any delays, you must complete your report within three weeks of its due date" but there's nothing that says I need to submit one (or by when) and I don't want to jump the gun or anything like that.  But I also don't want to get payments when I'm not eligible for them.

Just so I'm understanding this properly, you moved to the US on a K-1 and successfully applied for EI? I didn't really consider this as an option...but if it is...

Yes it is, but the problem is you can't RECEIVE EI until you have your EAD

My Fiance has been here in the states with me since March after being laid off temporarily, still has a job to go back to when they fully open. Would she have been able to receive EI payments even if she was here with me outside of Canada?

Provided she is ready willing and able to work. Thats a condition of being on EI

Ok so I’ve tried reading though the number of pages, but I’m wondering what could work in my situation. I’m waiting on my interview for my IR1. If these delays take too long, I’m thinking of quitting my job end of dec/early Jan and go down to see my family and stay with them until I get my interview. Now from my understanding, you need to apply within 4 weeks of leaving your job, however won’t get paid until you get your EAD? So would I be eligible to apply in Jan even if it were to take say 6 months to get my EAD and get paid retroactively?

appreciate the feedback! TIA.

You won't be eligible if you quit without a visa for moving.  With an IR1 you don't need EAD.  You do not get paid retroactively as you need to be willing, able, and ready to work.  There was 3 weeks I wasn't paid for EI when I moved  on my CR1 because I didn't have my SSN.

The reason to ‘quit’ would obviously be for spousal relocation. But I see what you’re saying. Thanks for the feedback. I already have a SSN, but I guess I can only apply once I cross the border after my interview since I’ll officially have my visa/authorization to work..

The hard part is you should apply within 4 weeks of quitting too

I am new to this thread. My husband is Canadian and we had our interview scheduled for April for the IR1 but was cancelled. Montreal has reported they are resuming interviews soon that were canceled March and April.  He is getting CERB right now and his EI hasn't kicked in as of yet. He lost his job due to Covid in April. I am reading this thread and have gone back but am a little confused. After he comes down here on his Visa is he able to collect EI while looking for work? Or did I misunderstand that? What is this EAD that you have to get first?

Because you are doing a spousal visa you don't have go worry about work authorization (EAD.) That's only a concern for people who are adjusting their status.

He can collect EI once he moves. He is relocating to be with family. He still has to be willing, able and ready to work.  If he doesn't have an SSN he doesnt meet the criteria.

She can try.  She's relocating to be with family and if she's not 18, she may get it or may not.  Worst they can say is no.
