Apply within 4 weeks and state your soon to be US address as your address. It can take them a month to get back to you anyhow.

Thank you!!! Do i put the bellville address as my address? I read before that that is what you put down, becasue the online form doesn;t accept US addresses?

It accepted my US address? But maybe they've changed the form since 2013. I did it at a Service Canada location.

Did you determine what to do about the address? The online form will only let me put in a Canadian address.

fairly simply.

fill out the online application http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/ei/application/employmentinsurance.shtml

make sure her work ROE says quit due to marriage relocation (mine just said quit but the EI people called my work and asked why I quit and they were told the reason was because of moving due to spouse and didnt have any issues)

once you fill it out someone from EI will call you and do a questionnaire and then you will have to wait until everything is processed. you will always call the international EI number to fill out the biweekly reports, i think its posted in this thread somewhere.

there is a two week waiting period for EI in which you wont get any money.

Mostly about when you quit, when you moved to US. Which day you were able and willing to work. Fairly simple stuff to complete your application.

USCIS

January 8th 2014 - NOA1

July 10th 2014 - NOA2

NVC

July 17th 2014 - Case shipped to NVC

July 30th 2014 - Case received by NVC

August 13th 2014 - Case number and IIN received by email

August 13th 2014 - DS-261 Form Completed

August 14th 2014 - AOS Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 17th 2014 - IV Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 19th 2014 - DS260 Completed

October 6th 2014 - AOS and IV Packages Received

November 28th 2014 - AOS and IV Checklist (4 items in total. 3 for documents they lost. Called on December 9 and a rep said no checklist for IV....go figure)

December 8th 2014 - Checklist scan date.

December 30th 2014 - Case Compl........NOT. So after not having an interview date yet, I called again on Jan 30th and apparently its in final review with a supervisor.

February 6th 2015 - Case Complete: Supervisor called from NVC to confirm everything has been completed now.

March 27 2015 - Interview Date

March 27 2015 - Approved!

Good morning.

Thank you for all your help. I just had another question. Do you think there will be an issue with me getting EI if my wife and I were living in Canada while doing all this paperwork? She did however, get transferred on June 2nd

Am I able to file for EI before I leave Canada? I was thinking that I would quit my job Aug 17, 2015. I would file here in Canada, and move to the US October 5, 2015. Is this a good idea?

Hey everyone.

I finally got my Questionaire and faxed them off using Hello Fax, however, they also sent me the EI Report for two weeks, but they don't provide a mailing address where to send them back too. Does anyone know where I send them?

Steven and Alice, good to hear. I can't reply as I have no experience in this field and here I am as I have some questions. again.

If anyone , especially K1'ers , can reply, it would be greatly appreciated .

When I 1st landed here, I applied to EI and since I was waiting for my EAD to be approved , I could not really be looking for a job ( which EI's Milene could not understand ) so she closed my file as I did not meet the requirements.

Now I have received my GC ( which covers my landed status , work permit and travel permits) card, can anyone confirm that

(1) I can reapply for EI, correct?

(2) I should in theory be approved as I now have my GC and the fact that my K1 visa expired has nothing to do with this, correct?

(3) If I get approved, what is the start date for payment? I presume that date would be when they approve me or would they backdate it to the date I 1st applied?

(4) I have read several posts/ this EI forum but have not found my answers . Most of the people who seem to get their EI quickly seems to be IR-1/CR-1 folks. Never seen any K1 applicants who got EAD quicker than 3mths. Anyway, previous posts said that EI itself suggests to apply for jobs that were similar to what you did in Canada , correct? If so, this will take some time if previous job is somewhat specialized. .

My main concern is how in the world do I show that I have been applying ? Read about people making a list ( read as well that people just made up that list) . I would like to go home for Xmas so I really don't want to take any job then have to tell the employer that I need time off so early in the employment but then I don't want to be fibbing to EI.

Thanks
