I would call the EI information line ASAP and ask them. I can't remember how long you have to apply after your last day of employment. It's usually wisest to do it as soon as possible after your last day.

Thank you. I read some thread that as k1 visa we need EAD before we can qualify for EI.

Yeah even though you won't get it before you get EAD you're still supposed to apply before the 4 weeks is up according to the Service Canada website. But ya never know unless you try! I hope it goes through for you.

Would I still be able to apply for EI if I did my POE, lived with my husband in USA, commute to work into Canada for a short period of time ( couple months ), then quit my job in Canada and apply for EI? I am just wondering because common process is to get approved, quit your job, cross into the USA to be with your loved one/activate your visa...THEN apply for EI within 4 weeks of your last day of employment....help

Thanks...I was not sure if living in the USA while working in Canada would affect eligibility for EI...will give it a try...worst they will say is NO lol !!

I just talked to someone about why I couldn't login to the My service Canada account and it's because when they ask you the question of you SIN, DOB, access code and where you're located, if you're outside Canada you need to put down Ontario. She said it's silly and how is anyone supposed to know that but that's how it is.

What number are you calling to report from the U.S.? The 800 number isn't working for me so I'm assuming there is another number and I'm not finding it.

I have sent in two reports so far. The first one was the 2 week one for the waiting period and the next one was due a week later for a one week period. Now I haven't received anything else other than a note telling me I wasn't eligibile for benefits on the day we were driving down (already knew that) and the web site says the same.

My report for June 15-21st still hasn't been processed so I'm kinda confused. I've never been on regular EI before so don't know how long it normally takes but know that I definitely had something in my bank account faster than this on my mat leave.

Any thoughts are definitely appreciated.
