They finally called! Hope this doesn't happen too often.

One would think they could arrange a better system than standing by waiting for them to call. Do you think they're trying to discourage people from collecting?

Trying to avoid fraud is the only logical reason I can think of for them wanting to contact people personally, but can anyone think of why an online account would be any less effective for the EI office to monitor for that?

I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and be grateful, but really, I've paid into it as much as anyone has. It is our right, not a privilege, to collect EI.

Does anyone have a response for this question above?

I also just recieved my first set of report cards, and I'm not sure how to answer this question.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yes, You are ready and willing and capable to work!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> They want to make sure you are work authorized and as a K-1 you are work authorized.. just can't be hired by an employer without a stamp - SO it's a catch 22 and basically on paper you ARE work authorized and thus elligible for EI...

It's strange and confusing but it's the way it is <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

There is so much information in this thread, and I can't even get into the old one at all to find out all the how to part of it, but I put no on my application because I knew I wasn't allowed to work.

But if it's true that I am able to work, just not allowed to without the stamp on the SSN, should I have put yes? I just got my NOA for my AOS, so I know I need to send that in, but now I'm really worried that I have made a huge mistake, as I'm at the point now that I'll be expecting to start getting cards to fill in too, and don't know what to put.

when you have your EAD call 613-536-4987 and they will sort it out, you will have to fax them a copy of your visa, your EAD and some other stuff. as long as you file, or filed the application for EI when you left your job they will sort it out. if they send you cards in the mail fill them out and send them back, you wont get any money though till you get your EAD and call them. if you have any questions or concerns about what you checked off when you filed your claim i would call that number as well they are the only ones that deal with USA clams. if you need any help feel free to PM me

Thanks Brooksie, I called today just in case and the guy on the phone said exactly the same thing, just fax my EAD as soon as I get it and not to worry about it. He also said that I don't need to send in any cards until I get the EAD.

Question: Would EI mail me the cheques into the US? I don't have any issues waiting longer for the money to arrive vs it going into a Canadian bank account.

I really don't want to keep a Canadian bank account around unless I really have to.

I should be doing my EI cards as usual this Friday, but it's the Easter long weekend. No mention was made of the long weekend 2 weeks ago when I did my last cards, and I wasn't thinking that far in advance to ask.

I'm pretty sure I should call in on Thursday this week, instead of Friday; is anybody else wondering the same thing?

I filled out my EI application. Really annoying with the parts with being out of Canada. That and twice having to fill out why I moved/why my partner is far away.

It's like:

No, I can't commute to work from where I am, that is a 20+ hour drive. No I can't move back within 48 hours to take a job in Canada as it defeats the purpose of living with my partner and my visa. No will not be back to Canada soon.

/end EI rant

Hello all:

I am new to this whole forum and had a major question.

My fiancee is working in the US and I would like to be able to as soon as possible. We haven't filed anything yet, but are thinking of her petitioning soon. Can anyone tell me the soonest I would be able to begin working once I receive the K-1 visa and have moved to the US?

Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone,

My husband is having trouble logging into Service Canada to check on the status of his EI claim. He called their helpline, was given the number that connects you directly to voicemail, and has subsequently left three separate messages on the voicemail without getting any response. Any idea what to do?

Nevermind, he finally got someone on the phone who could help him (he had to put Ontario as his province rather than Quebec for some reason...). Still weird that he never got a response from the voicemail messages though. Oh well.
