? not sure if anyone has been in this situation or not....just found out im pregnant. awaiting noa-2 close to 6 months now..

can i go on mat leave and continue to collect while in the us?

Yes you can. I just happened to read the Services Canada site after this post. You just have to alert them to the fact that you are out of Canada.

Hey all - update from the EI claim after moving here. Once we leave Canada and have eligibility to work in USA (which you would with Spousal visa, not sure about Fiance), we get 'transferred' to Inter

Never mind! Service Canada called me back this morning to let me know they've approved my EAD, I should start seeing payments as early as tomorrow, or as late as next Monday.

I got a similar question too. I'm a little worried I might get bumped/laid off and I'll go on EI... and I figure they wouldn't let me collect EI when I leave Canada, but wondering if my EI payments would resume once I'm legally able to work in the US.

I would think that it would be a similar process to the people who take a short-term full-time contract while on EI. The EI benefits stop while the person is getting paid and resumes again once they are off work again.

The best people to ask would be the EI help desk if it comes to that. Hopefully you can work right up to when it's time for you to leave.

To me, it seems it would be best to apply close to, but just before 30 days from your last day worked.

Any more than that, and you risk not qualifying for EI, and if you apply sooner than 30 days, your benefit time gets used up while waiting for your EAD.

I applied for EI about a week ago and got the letter requesting additional information about my situation. I'm a K1 who hasn't married yet. The wedding is set for January 14 and we're filing for AOS a few days after the wedding. I entered the US on November 21. Applied for EI on December 5. Quit my full time job of 3 years on November 15.

I'm just concerned that given the fact that I haven't married and filed for AOS and EAD yet, will I still qualify for EI given that the K1 is not work authorized and I can't apply for EAD until January?

you just will NOT get any $$$$ until u get ur EAD. A few yrs back a few k1'ers were fortunate and got Ei without EAD, but I believe that was because CDN Ei people didnt know what a k1 was,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

When filing for EI, do they at any point need the physical SIN card? Mine is lost but I know my number. Just wondering if it should be replaced before I leave Canada.
