Hi,

I need some feed back, I will poe by the end of Sept. But i want to leave my job by mid Aug. is that a problem??? i mean will Ei give me a hard time since i will have six weeks before i leave canada. I am a little confused, I've checked all the thread before i posted this question . Please dont ask me to read it again

I don't see why they would - 6 weeks is reasonable amount of time to quit, pack-up a home and move to another country. Don't forget to start your claim right away even though you may not be able to collect right away.

I think you'll find it's the folks who do it 6 months before or that sort of lengthy time frame who experience issues. For me personally - I only had less then 2 weeks since I had been packing since I found out my interview date and handed in my 2 weeks notice at work the day I returned from the interview

I have never collect EI before and will be as of nxt week. I was wondering how long after getting a job are you suppose to stop claiming ei.

If I start a new job nxt week, do I tell them the following card or right away?

You can tell them right away - they don't stop or change your EI claim until that actual day occurs because technically you're unemployed until the day you start work.

I am trying to read the "old EI thread" but it is asking me to log in and telling me I dont exist....can someone tell me how I can read up on the info so I know what I will need to do, my POE probably wont be until the end of Dec but with so much going on I would like to be prepared, thanks!

I applied before I moved and before I had my ROE. After I got it I mailed it in.

Hi everyone, big thank you in advance for any responses.

So, way back when the husband and I were married in June I told my employer that I would be immigrating to the states and that I had hoped it would be by December or January. They were supercool about it. It was agreed that I would find my replacement at the end of the year and transition out at xmas to spend time my last xmas with my family up here and move, etc. and the new girl would officially start Jan 2 or whatever day it is after the New Year.

Anyhoo, we're in Month 4 of waiting for our NOA2 and the Montreal Consulate is backed up beyond belief and we're looking at February (unless the MC keeps getting backed up even more, which I don't even want to think about, it's so terrifying... So I guess I have two questions (thanks for reading this far):

1. Can I go on EI in January if it's considered that I'm quitting or would I have to get my ROE to say that it's in advance of immigrating to the states?

2. If not, and I work contract or temp jobs in the interim, can I apply for EI afterward having left a temporary job? (not sure how EI works but I think you have to have left/lost a steady full-time job and had to be working there a certain amount of time)

Forgive my ignorance, I've never been on EI before.
