Yep, at 1 time some k1'ers lucked out. Cr-1/IR-1 are able to claim EI right away as they have work authorization from the start. Each vis comes with their + and -'s

okay... so here's a pile of silly questions...

I applied for EI before I left Canada, like literally the first business day after my last day of work. All good. set up an interstate claim with Donna. before I POEd, I sent Donna an email with a scan of my cr1 visa and my ROE from my main job, my second job did electronic ROE production so... I assume that went fine.

On Tuesday I got a letter from the EI people with a couple of the cards you mark up in it, so I filled those out and mailed them in . Does this mean my claim was approved? I kind of don't want to call and ask them lest I sound so much like a moron -- I've asked a million moronic questions here so... you guys are used to it.

No, it does not mean ur approved,lol At least it wasn't for me and a few others that were denied! It seems the sending of the cards is automatic then they review ur case, at least thats the way it was for me! i got the cards, then I got a letter or a call from them stating i was denied! I appealed and won!! But I was in the military and they stated I broke my contract--which i did--so they originally stated I wasn't eligible! But I appealed and won!

Well, that's just super! I wasn't in the military so hopefully I can avoid that loop. It would just be nice to have one step of this be slightly easy, as in no stressing out and stuff...

man... I missed a phone call from someone named Lynn at service canada yesterday... darn phone is upstairs and I have horrible hearing -- i didn't get the message 'til like 7pm. Now I'm wondering what THAT was about? I called her back and left a message. Do you think that they're going to deny my claim? that would SO suck...

Anyone else get a call from the Service Canada office?

What'd they want to know?

I'm going to put this up here for you all too...

This is regarding EI but no one reads that forum so here goes.

I am dealing with the famous Donna at the interstate office -- she needs me to provide proof that he stamp in my passport for my CR1 visa acts as my green card until my greencard arrives.

SO, can anyone here find a real, bonefide link to a government site that says that? Otherwise I'll be penalized for like 2 or 3 weeks until I get my green card.

It's odd, as Donna was the know all of our claims but she thought that the IR-1 visa was a religious belief based visa.

So, basically Donna, whom everyone speaks really highly of, had NO Idea what a CR/IR1 visa entails? I feel like I'm having to jump through some hoops over nothing...

Hey all... just an update, my claim was approved finally --- just a word of advice for you all, if you're being proactive and such, don't bother sending in a copy of your CR1 Visa before it has the POE stamp on it -- that was the cause of my issues at first there and because the interstate claims office isn't as familiar as we are with immigration verbiage it was a bit of a hassle. I ended up sending them a notarized copy of my visa with the stamp. It was lucky though, I was able to go into an insurance place in my town and get them to do it for free! If anyone needs a hand with this stuff, I'll be happy to help.

Now all I need is to get them to make the first deposit and then learn to drive and get a car.

OK I applied have gotten first set of cards and access code in the mail. Call the 1800 number to talk to a person and get an automated message saying the call center is closed. That it's open between 8:30 -4:30, yet it's 9:30. I have called a few times and got the same message.

So I haven't spoken to a person at all. I don't know where to send in my information.

I don't know what to do.

This is the out of country #...1-877-486-1650 You will have to leave your name, phone number and SIN number and Donna will get back with you..it's always a recording. Sometimes it may be a couple days...but she will call you. As soon as you have the proof that you're eligible to work, you'll fax, or email it to her, she'll send it along. You can call that number anytime, as it will just be a recording anyways.

Mel applied for EI 2 weeks ago, and last friday, we got back in the mail a letter requesting additional information, visa type information. It requests a copy of the EAD and the visa. Should we include a copy of my wifes green card as well? I don't see any harm in submitting additional information, but I'd rather be sure about it. Any thoughts?
