I don't recall ever getting 1 in the mail, but I could be wrong!!! Always head to the library to print one off, or get a family member to log on for ya, scan it and email it to you

Do you know if EI will automatically mail it to you? I don't have a printer.... I only had one EI payment in 2008, guess I still need to claim it....

I talked to Donna today at the EI office(shes so awesome!! always so helpful!) ANYWAY..lol..she said that a T4E will be sent out to the address that they have as of Nov.30...so if you moved..call her!!

Hello Canadians!! I really hope I'm reading this right! I can claim EI in the states after receiving an EAD? *faints* Please tell me I'm not dreaming...I'm stressed over this entire process as it is! If that's the case, how will that affect the affidavit of support? Is there an area to fill in that I'd bring in a bit of income?

Does the EI get deposited directly into my Canadian bank account, or do they mail you cheques in CAD $ to your US address, or do they deposit directly into my US account? Thank you!

Jill, check to see if they can make a direct deposit into a US account. I also receive a survivor's benefit, ( not a whole lot though..lol ) and I can receive it after marriage, and live any where in the world. It CAN be deposited into a US account as long as it's associated with American Bankers Association. I hope this helps...

Now...back to reading more info....I'm really smiling about this....

I belive--(depends who you talk to at the EI office,lol) a k1 can claim EI right away. And no they can not deposit into a USA bank! They can into a Cdn bank!! Thats where customhouse.com comes in handy. Its a FREE brokerage service. If you do a customhouse search on VJ, u will find a few topics about it. A few of us on VJ use it and love it. Better exchange rates than the bank! and free.

Flames is correct, I found out it has to be deposited into a Canadian bank account. That was fine, because I also signed up for Custom House and it's really great! Only downfall is it takes about 5-7 days for the transfer to go through, so you don't see it right away.

I don't yet have my EAD and I'm still getting EI....

Wow that is so great! I'll check in with the local office here in a few weeks or so. I'm probably not moving until summer ( I HOPE!!!) and I'll check that website out later too....just to know that it's possible lifted up some stress.

Funny they won't deposit it into a US account when I'll be able to do that with my survivor's benefit. Oh well....guess that's the government for you! LOL Better keep my account open then!

I was able to get mine online (end of feb???) a few years back!! Can't recall the exact site, and I'm soon out the door. I'm sure someone will speak up

You will receive a T4E. I was able to print it from this site last year.

Did anyone apply for EI before leaving Canada? Or are you supposed to apply after you move? I know you have to apply within 4 wks of last day worked. Not sure how all that's going to fall into place when I have my interview and such. Tim is coming up when it happens, ( I'm so happy!!) and then we'll fly back to the States together after about a week. Little early to tell though, exactly the play by play... :lol:

You have to apply from your US address, after your K-1 has been activated at the border.

You will need supporting documentation, but you do NOT need to wait until you get that documentation to apply. Apply as SOON as you land in the US and your K-1 is active, so you can claim EI for the full duration of the visa.

Don't apply while in Canada, but try to apply 1-2 days after your US arrival. You'll only get 90 days and the clock starts ticking the moment you arrive.

Just a quick note, Service Canada now has T4E slips online for the 2008 year. For most it won't make much difference for Canada. The 25% non-resident tax being sufficient. For others who want to Section 217 that money back, you'll need it.

You may or may not need the T4E for your US tax returns.

90 days to receive EI? or 90 days to apply for it? Just trying to figure out if I only have 3 months of it or not..
